Hello everybody,  I have just joined and hope to have lots of conversations with other solos.

I am living in Toowoomba and get away in my 15ft van & xtrail once a month.   I am still working 4 days a week, so my time away is limited to a 3 night weekend.

I have been to many camps around  S.E. Qld.

Welcome Kay. I'm about to hit the road within the next couple of months. My house has been sold. My house at the moment is in utter chaos as packing and sorting continues. We might come across each other somewhere, sometime in the great outdoors. Enjoy the forum. As others have said, there is a mine of information on here.

Welcome Kay.
I've been on the road for over a year now and love the lifestyle. 4WD and old caravan is my way of living as I can drop the van and go to work where I can find it. Currently I'm picking pears and peaches in Cobram, Victoria. I love the fact that at the end of the harvest I can just decide where to go. NT or Qld fot the winter - who knows? Hope to meet you on the road sometime. Exciting times.

Welcome to the forum!  Some lovely spots in QLD, Carnarvon Gorge was great but I didn't allow enough time:  Good excuse for another visit.  Off around Oz soon, cross Bass Stait (from Tassie) & turn left.  Stop to see rellies in Perth in July, son in Brisbane at Christmas - lifes good!  Sounds like you have enough experience to have the confidence for bigger trips, its good on the road, plenty of people travelling (some 200.000 Grey Nomads at any given time, apparently) so you're never quite alone.  Enjoy the freedom!

Welcome from me too Kay. I live 'just down the hill' at Logan, and have good friends in Toowoomba who I visit as often as possible.

I'd be interested to know where you would recommend in The Great South East. I haven't actually camped around my own backyard much, mainly going further afield.

Its great to hear from so many people.
I have just returned from a week camping at the Tamworth Music Festival. Great atmosphere.
It will be back to 3 night weekends for a while now - and back to work.
I envy those who have finished work and on the road - wish it was me...

Hi Beth, there are lots of places nearby.  A good one is Darlington Park just south of Beaudesert.

Atkinsons Dam is also good,  as are a lot of the dams.

Have you been to Flanagans Reserve near Boonah.

 I've been to Darlington Park many times, but never camped there. Also would have been to Flanagans and Atkinsons many years ago, as we used to do a lot of day trips around SEQ. I have friends who often camp at Flanagans, so I must check it out. I like camping near water, and either free or cheap camping so I must try out the dams too.

Re Tamworth...several of our fellow nomads were at Tamworth, what a pity you didn't get to meet some while you were there.

Welcome and congratulations for joining this great forum! I joined it myself just some month ego, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Of course, besides the traveling itself. As cooler times seem to approach quite fast, we may meet somewhere around Toowoomba, as I'd rather go after some more warmth up north, when the winter approaches here, at the Green's Lake.

ps If you are worried about your battery, why dont you carry a 1kva generator for charging.  Great for free camping.

 I've also checked your blog, your photos look great, you'll give Jon (Yeoeleven) a run for his money, I'm back on the road myself soon, end Feb or early March depending on the fire season, I have a property in southern NSW that I stay on until the fire danger lessens, congratualtion on the van, looks great, welcome to the lifestyle of the poor and the restless and we'll see you on the road I'm sure.

Welcome Kay and hope to meet somewhere on the frog and toed.

I have been very impressed with the Nomad site, pretty good bunch who are willing and able to pass on the experiance and knowledge of seasoned travellers. I too will be a solo travelin man very soon and I just wondered why so many solo men and women, do we have BO or is it that we like our own company and space and team up with others when it suits us.

For me  its about seeing this great country at my pace not being pushed by work commitments or family problems, work and family are on the back burner except for cyber catchups. I want to live in a way that gives me no stress, keeps me fit, meet people, see sites and travel when I want to and just generally enjoy the lay back lifestyle of being a pensioner, I've bloody earned it.

Welcome, Kay. I'm pretty much a newbie too. But catching up... missed telly tonight cos I've been here reading forums and making comments. Hehe. I checked out solosteve's blog and thought his photos were great. Nice campervan too. I'm in the same boat at the mo, preparing to hit the road soon... putting the finishing touches to my truck and camper on a pensioner's budget. And like him, I find the prospect of becoming a vagabond with no fixed address a bit daunting. My intention is to travel the whole of Oz at my leisure - probably until I'm too old to do it any more. I was surprised to read someone's comment that there are about 200,000 GNs doing their thing at any one time in Oz. How cool is that? No shortage of company, it seems. Or stories.

Welcome Kay,

I'm a solo traveller from Melbourne.  I free camp most of the time and have never felt nervous or threatened in any way.  It is a wonderful life and so addictive.  I spent three months over Winter travelling around Nth Queensland, and in a couple of weeks time will be heading off across the Nullarbor, following the coastline around until I reach Darwin then back home through the centre, returning home some time in October.  It can be lonely sometimes, but I have my little dog for company and there are so many interesting travellers to meet on the road.  Skype is a wonderful way of keeping in touch with family.
