leaving brisbane around 11thmay for townsville would some feedback on the bruce hwy or any other alt way to go i know you can log into some ssites and check but i would like infor on road conditions from recent travellers using these roads thanks cherylle
Used the Bruce Highway the weekend from Gladstone down to Gympie road works at different places all the way.But not a lot of traffic was on the road for some reason ,so the stoppages were not for long periods.
There is lots of roadworks going on every where. I travelled up to Wuruma Dam the other week, just past Eidsvold from Biggenden. Roadworks all the way, some wait but not for long. Found a longer wait on the Biggenden to Childers Road on Monday, roadworks all the way with one stop was a 10 minute wait. The Bruce Highway has plenty of roadworks going on, just be patient and be prepared to have a wait now and again.
Goverment has just announced there is to be 10 million dollars spent on the Bruce Highway in different locations ,over the next 10 years, so i guess for the next 10 years there will be road works going on along the Bruce Highway. But it cannot come quicker enough,well over due.
Be careful when going through roadworks. Just found 2 large star shaped cracks in my windscreen from going through the roadworks to Childers on Monday. I remember hearing the stone sound, looked at the windscreen in front of me, didn't see anything, but didn't look over on the passenger side. Spotted them both when going out to the van this morning. Buggar!!

I had a chip in windscreen and had them repaied from O,Brian Glass .That was 18 months ago and still going strong...A lot of people do not know that if you do get a stone chip or broken windscreen going through any road works, you have the right to stop request to see and talk to the person in charge of the project on site.You can be compensated for a new windscreen. But it must be done on the spot not like the next day or week....
I only noticed it the next day Herbie, although I heard it at the time. Do they have O'Briens in Qld. I remember seeing them in Victoria. From memory they charge your insurance company for the work. Thats what I understood from watching the adverts on TV.
I believe O'Briens Windscreens/Glass are Australia-wide.
They fix chips very well, and not too dear - and yes, they do the work and bill your insurance company direct. No cost at all to you - as long as your have the 'broken glass' option on your policy.
I pay the $68/year extra on my premium which covers ALL the glass on the vehicle ... windscreen, side windows and rear windows ... and it has no excess attached.
In 2011, travelling in outback QLD, I had 5, yes 5, big chips in my windscreen/s all fixed - no cost to me ... and would you believe TWO windscreens as well that year - all replaced at no cost to me. That more than repaid me for the additional premium
Coz I am a long-time member of RACV I have a 'life-time no claim bonus' .... the joys of FINALLY getting old

Yes they are Oz wide,there is other windscreen providers who also may do the fix it thingo. Just ask around when you are in a Town that has a decent population,doubt if they would be in a two horse town....If you don't get it fixed you will get up one morning and have the chip turn into a crack rite through your windscreen.
Rocky Lizard - good idea to have ALL glass in vehicle covered - several years ago we had a stone fly up from a passing caravan (yes - he was going too fast under the conditions) - hit the back window on the 4WD - it started to "craze" - Friday afternoon 3pm - about 150k out of Brisbane - as luck would have it was able to get it all done in Boonah, after having to wait 3 days for the glass to come up from Melbourne! Had to pay the excess!
