I have been fortunate to be able to stay with Chris and Paula since the 3rd March whilst the coaster was eventually registered, but not until many hassles were overcome the first main problem was that the GVM was compliance plated as 4520kgs which was 20kgs over the limit for C class license. This problem was fixed by having an authorized Engineer examine the vehicle and certify it as a motor home that allowed him to reduce the GVM to 4495kgs as well as compliance plate the coaster as a motor home.
The roadworthy was next and went through without too many problems due to the fact that we had been through the coaster very carefully and fixed the more obvious problems, the registration then was a formality and went through without hassle. All this cost over $4000 and now it is registered, comprehensively insured and I can legally drive it so I took it for a trial shakedown run to Bass river Reserve over last weekend.
So now I am on my last week in Frankston and next week I expect to be on my way again after my next pension and I can pay back Larry for the shockies that I needed and couldn't afford at the time. The first drive will be to Kyabram to visit Patty who is house sitting, a reversal of her visit to me whilst I was farm sitting in Tassie. Then off to Gippsland to visit friends from the Esperance adventures whilst we were staying at the Bushlands caravan park and spending time at Cape Le Grand national park. http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2011/11/from-thomas-river-back-to-cape-le-grand.html?view=snapshot
I have been constantly amazed at the help give freely to me from Chris and his friends, now my friends, whilst this difficult objective has been overcome. It is one thing to be able to buy a vehicle already roadworthied and registered but quite another to do as we have done. It has been a series of gambles all of which have been successful from paying a non refundable deposit whilst hoping to save up the balance during my Tassie trip to expecting a more difficult registration when bi fold doors could come into the equation. Glad your trials and tribulations are now behind you and you are up and running to continue your travels and keeping us informed of all those great places to add to our list.
One thing though, it does show despite all the doom and gloom around that there are still lots of very nice people around.
John - I am so proud of my son, and his friends, who have been a help to you - I am sure you have been an inspiration to them as well. Please will you let Chris know how proud I am - and to Paula as well, and Larry and all the others who have helped along the way.
So glad to know you will be back on the road very soon - will be good to catch up.
