Phone coverage and pet friendly camp sites

In the next six months or so I am planning my first trip.  Is Telstra the best phone for coverage?

Also is there some sort of app that will tell me when I am coming into a town where the camp sites are that allow dogs?

In anticipation of your replies, many thanks

You got it despite everything Telstra have the best coverage and the expected expansion rollout by the end of the year of the 4G network should make it better. (Hopefully)

I use an App called WikiCamps cost I think $1.99 I use it on a tablet my iPhone and find it very useful both as a map and for finding sites. Fun to play with to learn how to use it effectively.

Has Map settings or satellite or Hybrid a mixture of both.

You can also add info or Piccies yourself and make comments or even edit prices which change all the time.

I find it very useful and I am sure there are other apps people will let you know about.

There is one SWMBO has on her phone which she swears by and that is a free App for Public toilets around Oz.

Aldi have recently been advertising what seemed to be a very cheap phone and internet deal, but the catch is that it uses "part of the Telstra network", and I suspect that part is not going to be sufficient for those of us who like getting away from the cities and towns. Even Telstra doesn't cover everywhere, but sometimes it's nice to be out of reach of the offspring!

And the youngsters might be horrified to know that many of us grey haired folks actually survived for most of our lives without phonesbiggrin

Hi Lorna, definitely Telstra.   Go to one of their stores and ask for a map with their phone coverage of Oz which includes areas with little or no coverage, but better than the competition.

Generally speaking in the more remote areas make your phone calls or internet connection within the range zones if you are going to camp in areas that may not have coverage.....

I'll let the dog owners answer the dog question (I am a dog lover, but not an owner).

We use telestra for phone and internet connection.
We use WikiCamps for locating parks and campsites, and filter them for dog friendly.

For our own security, we never use sites with no phone cover.

I can understand where you're coming from Rosie, but considering that it has been less than 20 years since the mobile phone became common, it still amazes me how reliant on the things we have become in such a short time!
