May not be in a MH but is certainly an adventure.

I have arrived in Barmera this afternoon. What a wonderful drive up from Adelaide via Waikerie. The River Murray is certainly majestic and as I have never been up this way before I have been playing tourist a little. So much to see and do I think that one could spend some time around this area with heaps of free camp sites and interesting side roads. Will go from here to Renmark tomorrow via Berri. The lady at the info centre gave me the good oil on the different routes to take.

Doesn't matter what your choice of transport is Shekon just as long as you can be in the playground. I can't think of the name of the place but just on the Mildura side of Renmark you turn left and go to a great lookout looking down at the great Murray, not all that much unlike your great pics. Check with the Renmark Info Centre they know where. Renmark is Nice place too. The Murray changes completely the further east you go but still magnificent. If you go to Mildura make sure you do the paddle steamer tour down river, you go through the loch and that is an experience in itself. For memory, the MS Melbourne is the beast. Enjoy.

Thanks Dougwe, Mildura for me does not hold many happy memories, however I am going to use this trip to put to rest ghosts of the life of a motelier to rest.

Jules, this area is rich in history and sightseeing opportunities. The towns are village like, very clean and friendly, the scenery just superb. Certainly an area that one could spend a lot of time around. Today it is cold and wet, but not that freezing cold as it is down south, but during the Spring and Summer it would be just magic and of course a lot busier.

Given all that, this trip has really cemented in my mind that I am a gypsy at heart and cannot wait to get out there full time. Have no desire to go home but know that I have to for now, but clarity is mine and plans can now become concrete instead of the what ifs and maybes and if only's.

Glad to hear that the trip is helping you see how your life can be Sharon, travel is a great leveller. I have done that area in the past, but usually just passing through, this trip hope to spend a lot of time wherever we fancy! Heading through Mt Isa today, from Cloncurry, will call in at Corella Dam and see Oldboar, who has been there for the last week or so. Then "Westward hoooo......"

Have had the best day today, exploring the area around the Riverland. Went off the beaten track a little, explored what I could of the national park, seen some great camping spots, and basically had a great time. I certainly hope my alter-ego did also, because I found myself talking to myself quite a bit.

I have made it to Mildura, was considering staying at Renmark tonight but looked at the distance and thought why not, keep going. The road is good, not a lot of traffic and what was there were doing the speed limit so all good. Now here I see that things have not changed all that much in the 18 since I was here, just a little busier.

The pics I am posting here are not in any order really but just a few to show exactly how beautiful the area along the Murray is. The National Park has plenty of camping areas and they are about $5 per night. Now if only I could add water

Probably thinking of Paringa Dougwe. In a previous life I lived in the Riverland. Crappy memories for me, but there are some beautiful places there

It is good that you can visit the area that has memories and perhaps by revisiting you can put to rest the bad ones and cover them with good memories so you can again enjoy the area with new eyes and new enthusiasm.
I feel the Murray River and the rivers that join it along its journey are fantastic and where I prefer to spend much of my time.
There are many spots along the rivers where you can just pull into a dirt road and follow along to the river and find spots where you are on your own and able to relax to a level where the world can just past by and you can rewind your body clock and then venture on.
A couple of areas I like Moorook which has a nice site along side the river with facilities and a small shop and a club withing easy walking distance and another is Cohuna as there is many in this area if you look around.
I hope to be able to get back to the river soon but have a few tasks to finish here in SA and then I will be back into the areas I love.
Regards
Brian

Shekon, I really don't understand this rig comparison thingie.  What does it matter what you are travelling in.  It is the travelling that counts. I assume you are staying in CPs or motels as you go, good on you, you are out there and you are seeing this beautiful country of ours.

A couple of months ago I was in a rest stop at Ourimbah NSW near Wyong, a lot of you will know where I mean (Camp 129 NSW), and this young lass pulled up in an old station wagon.  It was amazing.  She had an off the ground zip up camp stretcher, a tarp which she attached to the high wire fence and then tied over the top of her car.  Out came a fold up table and chair.  She hung a mirror on the wire fence and over the table.  On the table she had a wash basin and portable stove.  She was smart enough to park her car at an angle that gave her privacy.  I was dying to have a chat with her and see where she had been and was going but it was getting close to dark and she was busy getting her meal ready.  Time I got out of bed in the morning she was gone.

Another time I  parked next to this older woman at Yunta (Camp SA 279) She had a similar set up, pup tent, gas stove, table and chair etc.  She drove a Toyota Land Cruiser, (beautiful vehicle).  Again I would have loved to have had a chat with her, as it was obvious with all the gear in her Cruiser she was on the road, but she smiled and turned away and got back to the book she was reading.  I never intrude on anothers privacy when it is obvious they don't want to chat.

I admire any woman who are prepared to travel and "make do" with what they have at hand.  I personally couldn't do it, I need a solid roof over my head.

Happy travelling .... Ginger
