WIVENHOE DAM CAMPING QLD

cryfurious

howdy all, for those fellow nomads who park up at either Captain Logan/Lumley Hill sites at Wivenhoe Dam Qld ,just like to give an update as it is controlled by SEQWATER, tenders have been closed for expressions of interest to manage one or either, Somerset Dam /kirkleagh, Captain Logan/Lumley Hill. Reading a local newspaper from Esk there was an interesting snippett from the Somerset Regional Council stating that they have put the idea of allowing powered boats on wivenhoe dam.  This is a disastrous idea in my view and of other nomads at our last visit to Lumley Hill. It would destroy the peace and serenity in our opinion. Anyone who wants to know more can look at the seq web site. One of the conditions in the expressions of interest was to manage the wood fired bbq's there. Well for those who have stayed there i believe the "wood bbq's " leave a lot to be desired . they are so rusty as the plates wont lift up and wouldn't feed my worst enemy from them. So all one can do is just wait and see who the successfull tender goes to. Wivenhoe is a lot cheaper to stay than Somerset Dam. but as i said its in the lap of the gods as to what increases will be .

This bit of info about pricing came direct from one of the rangers from SEQ WATER.

Cheers to all

The council might like to have petrol powered boats on Wivenhoe Dam but the dam is controlled by SEQWATER which will only allow battery powered boat on the dam have the water is for drinking water so I can't see that happening .

As a regular visitor to both Wivenhoe & Somerset, I would vehemently oppose power boats on Wivenhoe.

You only have to be at Somerset on the weekends to see the fools at play, hooning around without regard for  the regulations with boom boxes blaring out that thump thump music.  We always leave by Saturday morning at the latest.

The peace & serenity of Wivenhoe can well do without the power boat crowd.  They can always go to the nearby Atkinson's Lagoon/Dam.

My campsite at dinner time looking across Wivenhoe  ......

(Those were the days when I could drink red wine and enjoy red meat!!)

If this change is going to bring in revenue to the state Government well it will not mater one red herring what the average Joe Blow wants, It is all about the golden $$$$ and like many places through out Oz it is if you want to use it you pay big time for the pleasure .So sad but a fact of life.

It's on the RHS of the Lumley' Hill Camp .. Site 94.

You can see by the cluttered table with no table cloth, that I was batching on that trip.

Just me, sleeping in the Patrol with a pup tent for gear and the kayaks launched in the protected re-entrant on the right.

Not many red claw there .. just enough for entrees daily.  But great quiet paddling up the lake or back to the left across to Capt. Logan creek.  I'd make a day of it, leaving before the morning breeze got up & lunch either up the lake or in a quiet spot up the creek.   A short swim & nanna nap then a slow paddle home for afternoon billy of tea. I'll put a few traps in the creek mouth next visit .. use the electric motor to get there quickly without effort though.

.................................................................................................................................................

Menu for that night ..

Fresh Red Claw entree. Pan fried in olive oil, butter with sweet chilli & garlic.  A dash of cream in the pan for a dressing.  Dress with parmeson cheese & chopped parsley.  Glass or two of chilled Sav Blanc.

Main .. Rare to medium rare 500 gm Rump grilled with a heavy coating of chilli jam on a bed of orange damper.  Topped with a Tomato Supreme (Crushed tomatoes with dried basil, onion, garlic & celery) gravy. Side of lightly grilled Asparagus on grilled Haloumi cheese & bernaise sauce.  Washed down with a bottle Of Anne's Lane Shiraz.

Short black expresso coffee with a dash Bundy & off to bed.

..........................................................................................

No wonder I used to suffer from occasional Gout, high Iron & was overweight and maybe a border line alcoholic.

...........................................................................................

These days it would be dry grilled fish with steamed vegetables/pan fried cabbage with apple, onion & nutmeg, cus cus and a large glass of water .. bland stuff.   A cup of green tea (no sugar or milk) after a long walk before bed.
