Arrived in Babinda yesterday and found the place to be full but some walking around found a spot and I have set up for a few days. Excellent facilities with a new shower block recently opened allowing $2 showers for 4 minutes plus dump point and drinking water.
This is a RV friendly town and I walked to the centre of town from the camp in 8 minutes and that makes it easy to stay here for a while. Camps6 #14 show 48 hours but it is clear that is not enforced there are a couple of levels I am on the lower grassy one with a huge area above with a gravel surface, can't see that being ever camped out fully.
The camp is on the river but haven't seen any river walks marked out have taken some photos the usual method of accessing them seems not to be working, sure I can use another method but the dating sequence will be stuffed up so I will close down and reboot the lap top and hopefully will be able to post then. Success so here are the photos.
Will update this post as I will be here for a few, am waiting for Rod and Heather as well as the laptop bought recently and being shipped to the Babinda Post Office from China. John
As usual John you have found another nice spot, I look forward to following you on the forum and your reports. Just out of interest, is that a cane train rail line in the 3rd pic?

That is the main north south rail line running by Babinda, I will take more notice on Monday when I next walk by it to Babinda.
Remember the curtain problem I had regarding making up the back two? I have found an upholsterer advertising here in the camp and she will work curtain fabric so she is picking them up Monday. Taken since March but at last will be fixed. John
Hi John, trust you are travelling well. Noted that you are at Babinda, have to say it was our fav spit as we travelled north and back south again later last year. Great relationship with the towns people and they have a great time with the van people and visa versa. Anyway enjoy your travels and stay safe.

Hi Patty look forward to your call and Jules I was in the oppy yesterday morning didn't take long to find it, thought I had found an axe but when I pulled the handle out of the bin that was all that it was.
Didn't mention that Chris and Roz are here, we last met up at Wongaling and they are off tomorrow. Roz has been cooking perhaps a little too much for the two of them and I have been benefitting with a couple of dinners better than I could have cooked. Rod and Heather will be arriving at Babinda tomorrow with Norma, it will be good to catch up again it is a long time since Greens last November.
Been a good boy and caught up with my housework having washed and swept the floor and done my washing. Had a rare shower and washed my hair now can't do a thing with it. John
The Beatles. I might add that Queen are were good too. The groups from those days were all good, funny how their music is still around. My favourite were The Eagles and still are.
Good on you John, keep up the good work.
Edit's........w's where they shouldn't be, bugger.

Going by your new hair style John your pic should be on that T-shirt behind you mate.
Hi Doug,
Having gone back and had another look at the photo it leaves me in a quandary either you suggest that I look like I should be on the queen album or resemble the mop tops of the 60's.
I think the mop tops with the hair on the face would fill the bill but as far as a new hairstyle it is out of control.
Yes Doug the Eagles are a favourite of mine too I do have a T shirt depicting Hotel California.
Monday Chris and Roz left early for a caravan park in Cairns and to do one of those train trips but Rod, Heather and Norma arrived just after I had moved up and taken Chris's camp site overlooking the lower area. Steffi the upholstery lady called in and measured my windows taking with her my material and hopefully to return later in the week with the finished result, in the mean time I have towels pegged up to keep out the heat. Just to stir up those living in Victoria etc. I have posted the next weeks weather forecast in a photo of the weather chart from the phone.
Some may be interested in the view from my bus and each site I intend to post the changing view from the bus side door. Also I have included a work in progress of my new fireplace, Rod offered to make one up for me from a 9kg gas bottle. This makes my 20ltr cut down can a bit poor but I have never claimed to be good with my hands well not actually making things especially in metal. John
Wednesday night and the chuffa is finished I walked into town a couple of times getting things for it and we christened it, it works very well and the banana jaffles came out very successfully. Apart from that all has been moving quietly and the dog Missy has been making friends. I have had an email telling me that the lap top has been despatched so it should be here early next week and I have ordered an MP3/4 player also from DH Gate and nominated Atherton as the collection point. My old one will no longer take a charge so unless it is being charged I can't listen to it, not very practical so it had to be replaced. John
Gee John, that chuffer looks as good as I have seen one .Almost to good to use and get dirty.
Tell the chap who made it that he could make a nice little bite of pocket money for fuel on the side making these chuffers and selling to the travelling public.

Yes herbie he could and he has another order from a camper who was watching it all happen but Rod (ROWDYRABBIT1) is not looking for a sideline and Heather (Gunnago) wouldn't be impressed if he was grinding and drilling all day.
The job is great with the top going inside for bottom ventilation it allows the timber to burn down centrally and creates red hot coals for cooking.
Ask Jimbo about Rod's many talents when he saved him huge dollars tracking down an oil leak last year and how Rod patched up the Hi Ace for me last year at Greens, the man is a legend. John
Saturday morning and had a good night under the awning we talked until midnight, the girls from Boulder Creek, Audrey and Laure, arrived late yesterday and had jaffles in the chuffer. Tony (Riverman when he starts to post) and myself talked with the girls until very late catching up and discussing the possibility of using his houseboat on the Murray at some time in the future. He had port so for the first time in ages, I think it was in Tasmania, I had a few tipples.............the empty bottle is currently under my table and I am fine typing before 8am after having had a shower and breakfast.
Looks like the lap top will be delayed, I paid extra for an early delivery but that company doesn't deliver to Babinda so after losing a few days it was passed on the EMS who take much longer. I have requested a refund of the difference but won't hold my breath until it comes. Looks like I will be here in Babinda for another week or so, unfortunately the girls have things to do in Cairns so they will be off today. Small world we first met up at Stott's Island Nature Reserve near Tweed Heads, then at Boulder Creek near Mackay and now at Babinda close to Cairns. John
Glad you met up with the girls again John!!! And your choofer looks great!!!! No excuses now, for not eating well!
And - yes - you need a haircut I think!! But then so do I!
Having a great trip ourselves, though little Molly is back in Alice at the vet - getting better, and catching up in a couple of days, we are travelling slowly waiting for them!
Say Hi to Audrey and Laure from us, if they are still there - and we are loving their music!!

Monday 2nd September and still at Babinda, the tracking on the lap top suggests that it is in Sydney so I expect to be able to receive it later this week. Chris and Roz have called in again after their Cairns Atherton trip and have given me some suggestions on places to visit. Rod, Heather and Norma are planning to leave here early this week and I am anxious to visit The Boulders for a couple of days so I will probably go there when they leave and pick up the lap top afterwards.
My cooking on the chuffer is progressing well and tonight plan to cook potato bake and dampers, under Heather's supervision of course. It remains to be seen what mess I can make out of that but this morning got a lift into Babinda to visit Spar to make sure I had the ingredients.
Hooray the lap top arrived today and both main items were successfully accomplished. The first was tethering it to the smart phone so that it can be used for internet access and the second was to enable it to be powered from 12 volts without the inverter. I now have transferred some programs from my hard drive to see how long it will go watching shows without the need for charging, I am hoping for between 3 and 4 hours and it is getting a full charge before the shows commence.
So I have put up my annex and packed the fire box ready to set off tomorrow to The Boulders just 6kms up the road, I have been told so much about that camp I couldn't leave the area without a visit. It is hard to get a place there so I am setting off early to wait if necessary, there are nice walks on both sides so I may stay there for 2 days. John
