The Curtain Tree and Platypus Viewing Platform

After the Cathedral Tree I went to Lakeside Caravan Park at Yungaburra, I had previously checked the price out at $7.50 per night for a solo  but decided to be extravagant and took the powered site option for $15 per night. This was the first time for over a year of travelling that I have used a caravan park. Didn't really need to but it was nice and got washing done and had a long shower.

Saturday morning and I went to see the Curtain Fig tree, you could say seen one and you have seen them all but this one had a lean on it where the original host died and toppled over creating a sloping curtain effect. Very dramatic and huge with wooden pathways all round for viewing angles, the platforms were well off the ground making the tree much higher than it appear from the platforms.

Just up the Gillies Highway towards Yungaburra there is a platypus viewing platform on the right. The water looks muddy and if a platypus swam by there would be no photo opportunity the platform is much higher and further away from the Peterson Creek. I climbed over a fence and went right down to the creek and further along spotted a platypus just submerging but didn't see it surface so no photo but I did see a snake swimming across and got a long range photo of that. Will see how it looks in the pc and may post it.

Went on to Kairi Lions Park Camps6 #222 a free camp but kept on going to see the Platypus Campground Camps6 #224. Was supposed to phone first and book but the phone dropped out whilst trying to book in and I decided whilst it was a lovely place not to stop over. So here I am at Rocky Creek War Memorial Park Camps6 #221, very welcoming here and plenty of room to set up and camp with a maximum of 72 hours. Hard not to be moved after a walk round the old WW 2 camp ground reading the names and seeing the photos.    John

Hi John, we were there last year and have to say that it blew us away. Never seen a tree like that before although Cheryl had heard about it. Took a bit of finding but was worth it.

Enjoy the journey

Thought that was a Snake John.  Thanks for including that Pic.  They're all great as usual.

Cheers,

Sheba.
