Spuds Roadhouse at Pimba, S.A

Great place to stay on the way to Coober Pedy and beyond. Free camping, not much grass - except along the fence line, and that might have been weeds.

We stayed there on the way to Alice Springs and also on the return trip. Hotel, roadhouse, meals available etc. Showers are $2 for a hot shower - and the loos flush!

No bbqs there, but that's fair enough as it is a Roadhouse/Hotel etc! Bonus is if you are there the night that the Ghan train goes through - that's well worth popping out onto the road to see!

Pets ok... we had a little kitten on a harness and a lead with us... she climbed her first tree at Pimba! On the return trip we had a little dog in the party and he enjoyed his stay there as well.

Fuel available - about $1.79 a litre for diesel in July 2013.

Close to Woomera ( 7 kms) and that's a town worth a look as well. No fuel at Woomera, so fill up at Pimba.

We called in to Pimba and had a delicious bacon and egg sandwich just recently. Went on into Woomera for a looksee.

Pimba is a bit different from the first time I went there - there were dozens of cattle trucks, some loaded, parked up, and room for campers was pretty limited. The cows moved about and lowed most of the night, and the smell - well, you can imagine!! Trucks now park across the road, so much more room for vans and motorhomes. A good spot to take a break.

Marnie, Pimba spuds is one of my favourite spots to stay a day or 2, most times i get there at app 2 pm i be the only van there, in the morning be at least 20 or 30 vans and motor home there. I mostly try and set up beside those info sheds, as i can leave my genny going till app 7 or 8 pm and chained up if it rains its under cover.

Last time i was there was in early october 2013 i say at least 6 trains went through Pimba in 1 night, could hear the clicky clack and the bells going ding dong. I try not to buy fuel at Spuds as it app5 cents a litres cheaper at Roxby downs and Andamooka. Also the caravan park in Woomera is not a bad price its $15.00 a night for 1 person maybe $20.00 a night for a couple with power.
