Having the long weekend on the Gold Coast visiting friends and staying at the Hinterland Regional reserve near Mudgeeraba and Stott's Island Nature Reserve. Have had a long talk with June and we have decided that travelling together is not on so I have planned to set off on Tuesday.
The plan is to aim for Green's Lake near Shepperton but to take time getting there by travelling around a maximum of 300kms but not looking for roadside stops but finding camping sites and stop for a couple of days, the first camp will be at Texas. Trying to wander south avoiding the main highways where possible and doing some criss crossing. When I came north last time I travelled 350kms a day for 4 days and found that tiring as well as expensive, I know the petrol will still be a big expense but if taken over 3 weeks will spread it out.
Any comments suggesting camping sites will be welcome, tentatively Bingara will be next. John
If you want to zig zag across the Newell Lightening Ridge is a great free camp. I stayed there for 3 days on my way up. No river or lake though.
May see you on the road somewhere John.
I'm going to Hervey Bay today. Leaving there Wednesday, payday.
You have it sorted then John - enjoy your trip down - you and Marj could end up tagging along the way - both heading in the same direction.
We will be here - or at least not far away, it is gorgeous this morning, like a mirror - no breeze - aaaahhhhh the serenity!!!!

It surprises me that you're measuring distances and length of stays, John. I thought this GN business was all about having no timetable - stopping when you feel like it, moving on when you feel like it. Mind you, I'm yet to experience it so I might be talking through my hat.
There is a CMCA Solos Rally at Bingara, I think this week and lots also on their way to Narrabri for the CMCA Rally so you may find camps in that area quite crowded.
Sorry you couldn't convince June to join you in the lifestyle John, you can't say it wasn't for the lack of trying more than once.
Some people like the lifestyle, some don't and not much you can do to change their minds if they are like that.
Funny my oldest daughter and two kids are at Surfers at the moment for the school holidays, they have been there but seem to love it there, but at a cost (flights from Perth/accommodation etc).
I don't know much about the areas you are going to, but I seem to remember someone mentioning a good free camp somewhere near Goondiwindi (spelling) if that is any help, probably in Camps book.
Thanks for the best wishes I did try to convince June to travel with me but she has her priorities and they are not the same as mine.
Gary I do have in mind to get to Green's Lake and how notto achieve that, apart from that will see how it turns out. It seems logical to travel south in reasonable trips and camp for a while each stop so to that end I am looking for suggestions. It is a broad plan based on my desire to end up at Green's not a list of appointments.
Good morning John, Sounds like a good plan, take your time, enjoy the view, smell the flowers if you want to as Greens will be here when you arrive :) Dont blame you for wanting to be here at Greens its lovely here at the moment, kids have gone back to school & only 6 campers here. See you when you get here. Patty.
