Bendemeer near Tamworth

The previous thread re Bundarra got a little hijacked so there will be some duplications here.

Arrived here Bendemeer Camps6 #168 at 12 noon just in time to make lunch, making wraps these days with salad/cheese/ham and those supermarket crunchy salad creations. One up from the usual open sandwiches that I have made for 2 years. Last year almost to the day I was camping in this ground with a forum member loki Anton I have memories of his GPS taking us in the wrong direction twice in 2 days until I took over the navigation. One of the mistakes was to take us past the turnoff for this camp so I was able to get here more easily this time.     http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/the-last-couple-of-days.html

Last time the weather turned wet and I had used a couple of wooden blocks to balance up the van, during the night the blocks sunk so that when I drove off it was flat and I forgot the blocks until I needed them next time. I had 4 specially cut for me in Charters Towers and the last 2 were left behind at The Nut in Stanley (Tassie) my mind being on saying goodbye to 2 German backpacker girls who had invited me to join them for a few days.  The latest blocks were given to me after my farm stay in Florinhill they are huge and less likely to be forgotten, but then I am capable of anything and have a history of losing blocks.

I am parked next to a Mercedes Winnebago that was parked nearby at Bundarra coincidentally he has an appointment in Tamworth to fix up some small problem on Monday. There are a couple of pics from Bendemeer in the link above so perhaps I may not post any this time, we will see. Last year at the same time I was here and going to the same place Greens Lake but this trip will be different because I want to find interesting places enroute and avoid the Oxley and Newell Highways. Have a couple planned and plenty of time to seek out more, there is no rush.   John

Hey John - there is a camp spot at Wallabadah - in the Liverpool Shire - just below Tamworth I think - really good spot - and interesting with all the names of the first fleeters marked on plaques in individual gardens - lovely spot! Toilets there and you can walk into town. Lots of people stop there.

More great photos, John. And what a lovely spot. I reckon I could spend a week there easy.

Gary I think that spot has limited hours now thanks to the cranky bugger that owns the cp in Bendy.

wonders why no one will stay there. if you ever saw him on the local news here complaining about the camp on the other side of the river you would probably not stay there either.

There have been calls recently to close it

apparently the cp owner is threatening to close up which will leave the town without a shop and fuel supply.

have to wait and see what happens

Jules

I don't think they will ever learn.
there is a market for both types of accommodation in Oz. People who use bush/free camps are usually people who will not use cp's so to me closing the free ones will not benefit the cp it will just mean those people will stop somewhere else.

If the cp operator was a smart bloke he would provide a very basic camp site at a very reasonable price and I feel people would go for that kind of product. We certainly would.

but as you say "when will they ever learn"
