This is what I take away as hand work . It's called Patchwork of the Crosses and a great way to use up your stash. Each piece is cut out and hand sewn together. I started this as a placemat and just got carried away. I now have 15blocks finished and will join them together with squares and diamonds in fabric that as yet has to be chosen.
I don't mind the fussy cutting even though I haven't done much to get excited about. Blueberries have some stunning ones on their website. I would love to do a class there but it's on the Central Coast and it's a bit far for me to go just for a lesson.
You look at fabric in a whole different way when you fussy cut. I have a friend who has her quilting done by Kaye Brown. I have mine done by a lady at Harrington Park.
The fussy cutting is the eye candy, end up with patterns that are quite involved...just don't like the dog bones on some of the Crosses, once you see them they don't vanish, seem to jump out at you.
