The trip to Greens

Well I have made it and as per the other thread have met up with several Grey Nomads.

Jules does such a good job on reporting the happenings here I have got it easy for a while.  John

You have earned the first one, now to build up an impressive collection.

I have a couple more covering my travels to date. The post was made September 2012 and has been updated on the road.

Just a question, I have no green pins but I am a bit green around the gills wishing I could be with you happy lot, maybe one day, but not this time.

The question is if travelling from WA via Augusta in WA, what is the most direct route to Greens from Augusta please, confuse

Thanks

Have driven Elmore (just down the road from Corop/Greens Lake), Rochester, Echuca, Cohuna, Kerang, Swan Hill many times all good roads unless there are floods about as the country is flat.

Swan Hill to Mildura quite a few times and is all highway stuff.

Mildura, Renmark, Burra, Peterborough, Orroroo, Willmington, Port Augusta, only driven a couple of times and again easy driving.

All up I would say around 1000km.

BTW Sorry for returning the thread back to the topic.

Many thanks all for the directions, made an error in my locations, I meant to say from Pt Augusta, SA, not Augusta WA, musta had a Duh moment!

However have picked it up from there on the map/info given, thanks.   So looks like Mildura, then Echuca, have been to Mildura so ok up to that point.

Sorry for the diversion Yeoeleven John, sort of related to the subject matter, love the map. smile

Soup sangers ain't so silly. Isn't it the Italians who dunk bread in their minestrone? My dad used to clean the gravy off his plate with a slice of bread every night. Meanwhile, it wasn't a female backpacker I met on my little mini Odyssey recently, it was a middle age blonde wearing knee-length high-heeled leather boots and a leather bikini top. She wanted to know if I had any spare coffee and I said NO!!!!!!! Frightened the bloody daylights outta me, I can tellya.

The only part I would know Vic would be Victoria. I would suggest Swan Hill and Mildura then Echuca.

Take the Augusta Highway from Port Augusta to Port Pirie and down to Crystal Brock where the Goyder Highway begins. Follow the Goyder, which changes names several times along the way, but is essentially the Goyder through to where it changed into the Sturt Highway well before Renmark. Follow the Sturt straight to Renmark and from there across to Mildura, then on to Echuca. From Echuca head South to Rochester, then down through one of the smaller roads travelling South East to the Midland Highway. If you want to play it safe, you can come all the way down to Elmore from Echuca as Elmore is right on the Midland Highway at the turn-off to Shepparton. Green's Lake is clearly marked on the map and is roughly a quarter of the way between Elmore and Shepparton on the left hand side of the Midland Highway and just past Corop.

Hope that helpswink

Thanks for the directions QK, I found it on the map ok, it also had a tent shown on the map for camping which helped look for it.

Wow, that's a long drive from WA, but who knows I might just turn up that way one day Jules, but not this time.   From one of your posts I see you are going to be there late November, but can't see me being there at this stage, have a few things on the plate.

Hope you all are having a great time and I bet there are a few stories flowing around that camp fire, I will be there in spirit if not in body!

Thanks again everyone, I've been to Mildura and Bendigo (many moons ago) but a bit rusty on the area now.   Just as a matter of interest, if near Mildura on your travels, stop at Wentworth on the NSW side (where all the rivers meet) and visit their museum, and the big red Perry sandhills picnic area just out of town is a great photo opportunity, how the red sandhill got there is beyond me, looks more like something you would see around Ayers Rock (Uluru) or something.  See;
