Enough Greens Lake for now from non solos

What the?

Sorry but can't sit back on this one.

Currently as I reply liddle there are 6 "SOLO" members of this great forum here at Greens Lake, Central Victoria so how do you say we are not may I ask? There are only 2 couples.

I have tried not to be rude liddle so your thread doesn't get closed by the way.

Maybe your the rude one (just a little though). Just a thought.

If you are out in the playground liddle, enjoy but most important,

Gday...

Ditto from me too Bill. I don't think any (or very few) "solos" are posting at the moment which is certainly creating the impression that the only thing happening on The Solo sub-forum (perhaps even the whole of Straya) is Greens  - with everyone being made fully aware of all the exuberant, playful shenanigans of the "Nutters".

Guess we are pigeon-holing ourselves into the 'unexcited' and/or 'non-nutter' category. As me ole mate Ned sed "Such is life"

Liddle -

" Or do you just want to touch base with like-minded people. "

We are all travellers, enjoying some time off the road, but yes we want to "touch base" with like-minded people, let them know there is a garden of eden waiting for them down here!!!!

Billeeeeeee and I have always posted in the solos section, as well as other sections on site.

Liddle, I am not travelling at the moment BUT I have been following the Greens Lake posts and I am enjoying those Nutter's Capers. I wish I was there also.

Yes I am SOLO but couldn't give a rat's tail if the posters are Solo or partnered.  At least someone is posting, which is more than I am at the moment, as I have nothing about travelling to write about.

You are nitpicking Liddle.

By the way ..... no one makes you read the posts, if you see the word "Greens" pass it by.

Have a nice day.

I don't think I'm much of a thread starter, but I do post. I enjoy others travels solo or not. I agree that there are less new threads throughout the forum at the moment as well as other forums. I think it is the time of year.

Bill's suggestion has some merit.

A Greens Lake section, started with a STICKY of its location and its facilities (which gets asked often in both General and Solo), would certainly help keep all the posts, plus the questions/answers, in the one place (well for a short time anyway, LOL).

However, overall I'm not fussed.

Hi all,
Perhaps it is time that Greens Lake had its own subforum … it is certainly becoming a famous spot for Grey Nomad forum members to meet up and share a drink, a laugh and get to know each other in person.  We are thrilled that so many of you have been able to meet up and form friendships at the ‘unofficial’ HQ of GN forum members … Greens Lake! Our new ‘Greens Lake’ subforum will help everyone to keep up with the fun ‘on the ground’ and perhaps even organize a trip there.
On another note, if anyone has any suggestions that they feel would enhance the forum, please do not hesitate to send me a PM or an email.  Above all, we would like our forum to remain a positive and welcoming place to be.

The solos section was started for solos, as Cindy says in her introduction to the solos section

Are you a solo traveler or just thinking about setting off on the adventure of a lifetime on your own?

Just a suggestion, could all the Greens Lake constant chatter be moved to the I digress section. Most of this chatter is NOT by members who are travelling solo. IMHO the solos section has now been completely hijacked by this Greens Lake chat which should be in the I digress section and not solos

Keep the solos section for solos

As usual some will agree and some will not. I believe anyone should be able to state an opinion as long as it is within the rules of the forum .

I guess my suggestion will lead to the inevitable result which is very rude comments followed by the thread being closed because of the very rude comments, but for the ones who get in early you can read my opinion.

It would be fairer if the owner was  to remove the posts with the rude comments and let anyone who can write a reply or comment that is not rude do so.

It would be wonderful if for once we were allowed to discuss something that affects the enjoyment of the members but from past experience this is not possible.

Hi to all

My point is this:

The forum is divided into sub-forums to cater for the differing interests.

There is a sub-forum  I digress  which is described as follows

Want to discuss your paperclip collection or the price of tea in China? This is the spot to go off topic and talk about anything not related to grey nomads and travelling around Australia.  Just one rule here (besides keeping posts friendly and respectful) please no religion or politics.  Thanks all.

Therefore it follows that  if someone is staying at Greens Lake and they want to tell the forum that they had 2 serves of apple pie with dinner it should be sent to I digress   not the solos.

If they have a technical question or comment it should go to the Technies corner

If they want to discuss something related to grey nomads and travelling solo then send it to the solos . The solos sub-forum is described as

Are you a solo traveller or just thinking about setting off on the adventure of a lifetime on your own? Do you want to ask some questions of those who have gone before, or perhaps to offer some tips and advice. Are you looking for someone to share a leg of your journey with? Or do you just want to touch base with like-minded people. Solos ... this forum is for you. Enjoy.

To sum up if you are not travelling solo why not leave this section of the forum for those who are travelling solo.

If your post is off topic ( whether you are solo or not ) it should be directed to I digress .

If you are not travelling solo and your post is relevant to grey nomad lifestyle then post it in the General forum.

So, really, is it the fault of GN's, solos or not, at Greens that no one else is posting - maybe they don't have much if anything to say??!!

hi Liddle, I can understand where you are coming from, however, when I was at Greens the vast majority of people there were actually solos. I am a solo and have not posted for awhile as I have been attending to family and personal matters that really do not belong on here, so I guess we all go through times when there is not a lot to say.
I look at the forum as akin to sitting around the fire at happy hour, there is a collection of people with a collection of stories and topics to be spoken of and about. Some we don't get others we laugh at and others we just shake our heads and wonder "what the????", but each one has something to contribute to our lives and that is what makes it colourful and different. There are many topics I read and then leave it. I don't comment on many as I feel as though I don't have a lot to add to the subject, and I am like that in life a lot of times I am quiet, and just take it, try it on and if it doesn't fit then I leave it alone.
I am with Jules also maybe the solos at present do not have a lot to say, so are quietly getting on with their lives. Then again, when one does start a new thread, there are times that there is no response so different courses for different horses.

Liddle a suggestion start another topic just as you did with this one. See you started a conversation and happy hour will be a lively one tonight.

May I ask are you travelling at present, are you stationery, and where are you situated. Let us know.

Happy hour at Greens will be rocking tonight. Maybe liddle should head up there and enjoy life instead of complaining.
I am NOT a solo traveller, but most i met at greens were. I find them inspirational and if they post, I am going to read and reply. You dont have to be solo to enjoy and learn from them.
I hope you are enjoying your travels and find more joy in your day than picking on some posters who are having fun and at least putting it out there where they are and encouraging others to meet and greet. Thats the whole idea isnt it?

I will add my bit too. If more solos posted in the solos section the greens comments would be less noticeable as they would get hidden further down the page.
Yep, nitpicking again.

To be fair, the Greens posts are not exclusively about Greens Lake, they're about all kinds of things and all kinds of people. I've learned a thing or two about Grand Villas and stacking firewood and Melbourne Cup hats and birthday cakes. What's important to me is that GNs camp there, so it's all about GNs and camping. "Where" they camp is beside the point. In any case, I've got a problem. I'm grey and solo with a rig but I'm also stationary at the moment, which means I'm not strictly a nomad. I also don't have any teeth. So I would like a separate forum for stationary, toothless, non-nomad solos. Any takers?

no flamin chance Gary.

please take note that any and all posts on this forum are related to nomad lifestyles, camp spots(good or bad), touring rigs of all shapes and sizes, shenanigans at said camps, tucker, grog, gadgets, people, pets, situations, technical stuff and a host of other things I just can't think of at the moment. I am sure a member of the GN family will help me out here.

so if you have something to say it really will fit in here somewhere even without teeth.

Liddle,
the beauty of a forum such as this one is that everyone here is friendly, we don't take too much to heart because life is short and we really do deserve to enjoy ourselves. Ole mate if you don't like what you see there are many options in the user control panel that YOU may select or deselect to tailor your forum experience. Please familiarise yourself with said functions.

I am not a solo, but I am certain that as a member of this family I and my wife will be welcomed at Greens when we get the chance to drop in and check out the shenanigans and the delicious camp cooking. I am also certain that you could mend a bridge or two if you took the time to call in and see this place for yourself and say hello to some fellow GN's.

mate life is far too short to be that concerned over a few good people enjoying themselves and squawking about it here.

I rest my case because my glass is empty and I have to go refill it.

thank you for the opportunity to reply.

frank

Once again I will try to make my point.

I am not complaining about members writing in about Greens Lake.

I am trying to get some sort of order to the messages so that for instance if I want to read frivolous stuff I open the I digress forum. What I think is not fair to the members generally is to open a forum where you should be able to read grey nomad related stuff only to find it full of frivolous .

There is a sub-forum for Show your rig. All members seem to be able to understand what this sub-forum is for and only post messages about their rigs.

I am trying to suggest that all members should be able to see the difference between the General Forum , the solos sub-forum and the I digress sub-forum and post their messages in the appropriate place.

All I am asking is for more thought into which forum you post your message.

Cindy has now started a separate forum for Greens Lake posts so that should solve all of the problems as regards to Greens Lake messages.

I have no complaint about how many messages about Greens Lake , or by the people staying there, or any other topic , I only ask that they are posted in the appropriate forum

I'm not really concerned where its posted. I enjoy reading about Green Lakes. Its the first thread I go to and Billeeee always brings a smile to my face. I would really love to meet him one day.

KEEP THE POSTS COMING and lets worry about the bigger issues in life than where someone should post.

It has served the purpose of having some input about the direction of the forum  resulting in Cindy starting a new sub- forum for Greens Lake posts.

Thanks to all concerned .

Cindy is very obliging with requests and suggestions.

I really enjoy seeing campervans, buses, motorhomes set up and campsites at Greens and everywhere in fact. I love to see what others are travelling in. It's also what I enjoy in magazines as well. I love to get ideas from others.
