Learn to draw and paint online resources

Well hello all you multi talented GNs!  You may recall I posted several weeks/months back about my intention or should I say, hope, to "teach myself how to draw and paint" as an interest whilst traveling. Someone mentioned that there are some very good "how-to" sites, videos, books on line or available to buy/download.  I have looked at 2 downloads from a Bob Davies website (you can google the 2 courses - Watercolour Secrets and Acrylic Painting Secrets - (I would prefer not to put any actual web addresses here in-case I end up in someone's firing line)  - not sure if they will be worth reading, so if anyone has seen them I would welcome your thoughts or alternate ideas. Thefree  downloaded ebooks cover the basics including equipment and are the free teasers and if you want you can then go ahead and buy the courses either separately or as a discounted pack. If the course is legit then I would consider the $200 approx investment worthwhile.

I have now returned back from our last trip away and are now ready to bite and bullet and see just how much - if any - talent I have in the artistic arena!

So - what I would also love from you all is some info about sites and resources that may help me to learn the difference between a paintbrush and a coloured pencil!!!

cheers for now

Libby

Yes I downloaded a couple of free ones - took a lot of printing to print them off. But they were good and I practised doing some watercolour clouds and trees and a scene. Then I bought some books from an art supplies shop. I still get reminders from him of other courses. I couldn't afford his prices.

Broke my leg earlier this year and spent 6 months off work. As had lots of 'down time' I decided to do something I'd always wanted to do - learn landscape painting.  I purchased a double dvd set (ended up being two sets of two) for about $55 incl P&P from Len Hend's site. Len is a Queenslander.  He has a couple of sites.  If you google Len Hend you will find links to 'speed painting', and 'paint with len' where you can do the tutorials and/or order the discs.  The content is mostly the same but I liked the idea of the discs so I had a permanent copy and didn't need internet connection when I wanted to paint.  He explains things simply and is easy to follow.  Value for money.

thanks for your help and advice Neil'n'Ruth and zigzagps - other half gave me some paint and an easel for Christmas, so now I have no excuse not to get started. I will check out the Len Hend website and get a move on. You are right, the Bob Davies program is expensive, so if there is a good alternative, that that's what I will go with. Need to wait for school holidays to finish first as a 6 year old underfoot is not a good for the concentration.
Cheers

I always found interesting ideas on the Art is Fun website (www.art-is-fun.com) because she has some free online tutorials and resources there, even though she sells books too.

Another site I like is the Mixed Media Workshops (www.mixedmediaworkshops.com) as the people on that forum are all artists or aspiring artists and share a lot. You can ask questions, enjoy the gallery, ask for examples...They have paid online classes there too but are usually not expensive.
