Here we are free camping at Fort O'Hare, which is in Dartmoor about 40kms from Mt Gambier on the Victorian side. A beautiful peaceful spot and the spot I was determined was going to be my first place to set up camp when I bought Miss Daisy. Well it has taken me 9 weeks to get here but here I am and loving it, it is grassed, shaded and a river to explore. I use to come here and stalk the GN's when I was investigating what I should be doing etc.
When we arrived yesterday afternoon there was another couple already here, had a chat and decided that Happy hour was not too far away. So Rod, Sue and I set ourselves up and under the shade of the Cyprus Trees we settled in with a drink or two and a good chat. Not too long to wait before another caravan pulled in, we yelled out for them to join us and over they came. A beautiful couple, who provided more conversation and laughs. As the evening wore on, it was determined that Rod knew these people from years ago and then the original couple had met the new couple at a free camp a few weeks ago and then to top it all off, the new people knew Kevin and Kim at Greens Lake. So the world had just become smaller again. After a very raucous telephone call to Greens to re-introduce every one again, it took us another couple of hours to complete Happy Hour, and then it was only disbanded because it go so darn cold. I will tell you how cold it become, I went and put my dressing gown on (over my clothes), to keep warm, and because of fire bans we were not able to light a fire.
We had a ball, laughed out loud and talked about all manner of subjects and I thought of those all seem to think that the Happy Hour is a myth. I really believe it is a matter of speaking up, smiling and making it happen. Just my thoughts.
You will note from the photo's that friends were soon made even to the point of sharing a warm blanket to keep the pins warm.
Agree billeeeeee, well we danced again tonight. New people arrived, another wonderful happy hour or three. It just takes talking and dancing with who is there.
