I have discovered that I have a lot to learn about quilts and patchwork!!!! I cleared the kitchen of all furniture so that I could use the floor to work on, even washed the floor then taped the backing fabric, the wadding and the extremely large quilt top to the nice clean floor and got down on hands and knees and tacked the whole lot together..... nearly wrecked my knees and didn't do my bung arm a lot of good either, took me hours of work and pain. I took it to the lady who was going to quilt it beautifully....she broke the news to me very gently...I didn't have to do all that tacking, apparently you only do that if you are hand quilting not needed for machine quilting!!!!!!!!!!
So......when I finally have this work of art completely finished and in its place of glory on the bed in the caravan everyone we meet on the road is going to be required to come and pay homage to it! its enough to drive a person to a liking for alcohol!!!!!! cheers Capricorn
Oh dear Capricorn. Maybe you should have asked first. I can just feel your pain. I have a craft table to pin mine (I don't tack). I'm sure it will look great when finished though. Looking forward to seeing it - a pic on here would be great.
Oh Ruth, I will probably make a mess of the PHOTO of the quilt as well!!!!
I have never had a quilt professionally done but I have seen and even helped tack large quilts so it never occurred to me to ask how to present it for quilting!! She is a delightful lady, I said I would take it back and unpick it but she insisted it was no trouble to do it herself.....she may have been a bit worried that I would have taken the scissors to it purely out of frustration!!!!
Gerty...don't worry about lacking a reason for alcohol. This quilt has driven me to some very serious alcohol consumption and I still have to finish the cream lace and embroidery quilt that I started before the accident!!!!! I might be very tempted to get in the van, drive away and leave it all behind me. cheers Capricorn
