Saturday morning and a big surprise, Richard had rung me yesterday and told me that he had found a starter motor for the Transit Camper and was heading for Parkes. I made a booking for him and he arrived during the night and was parked next to me. We set off early to see the sights and to walk the main street and look around the markets.
We found a place next to an illegally parked ute and propped there for the parade. There were many floats from local businesses and a convoy of cars from the era, it took over an hour to pass and I took many photos. Jim Richards father was driving from Brisbane down the Newell back to Shepparton and saw most of the parade, we linked up after and went to Cooke Park to listen to the show at the auditorium.
Richard and I went to the Henry Parkes Information Centre and paid to visit the museum, there is an interesting sequence there depicting a day in the life of Elvis. There is also a huge collection of old motor vehicles and even older farm equipment, all up well worth the $10 cost of entry. Back to the camp and catch up with a few odd electrical jobs. All Elvised out and not interested in going back to the festival.
We had planned to chill out on Sunday but that all changed when Richard received a phone call too good to refuse and he was off. I have pulled down my awning in readiness for my departure tomorrow to Mandoorun. An excellent experience made all the better with Richard's unexpected appearance, probably won't do it next year but then who knows???????????? John
Well, well, well, a ubiquitous Aussie/Greek Paragon cafe. Haven't been to one of those for years! But there was a time when every town had a Paragon cafe and a Royal Hotel.
