On the move again.

Well I am on the move again after spending 2 weeks in Melbourne. I love my girlfriend and her hubby, and had a wonderful time with my grandaughter, but sheesh it was great to move away from the traffic and people again. I cannot believe that as I was such a city mouse, and now give me the country mouse persona and I am a happy camper.  I headed to Bendigo to start with, just to get grounded again and a bit of R&R, after not really having anytime to myself for a couple of weeks. 2 days there in a CP was well long enough and the open spaces called again. Could not wait to get free camping again.

I headed off, thinking about Greens and then decided that no I needed to expand my experiences and headed north to Lake Meran. This place is half way between Boort and Kerang. Beautiful place, a donation box is there with a donation request, well maintained toilets and showers. Cold showers only I believe. No water to drink, gas BBQ's, a playground and huge body of water. There are  ccouple of entry points to the lake, I would be careful about taking the first one from Boort as the trees that overhang are quite low, the second gate gives a clear road, and depending on the height of the vehicle one could move further around the lake. I was there on my own and had a wonderful couple of days. It was quiet, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, birdlife on the lake, and a good walk halfway around the lake. Either end of the lake there are private properties so unable to get right around it. On wikicamps it indicated that there was telephone and internet access, and there is none. At times I would get one bar, but no internet. SOS phone only most of the time. Television reception was good.

All in all a great place to park up for a couple of days.

HI Spida, I did think about Greens, and the steering wheel was pulling as I arrived at Elmore. I am currently in Koondrook. A beautiful little place that I have come across almost by accident. Was going to stay in Kerang but did not turn where I should have and this is where I have ended up. More of that story later. Just on the border from Barham.

We were at lake Meran oct, last year and had a good optus signal all the time, as well as internet. Really nice place to stop and surprisingly not many stop there, had to back out of the first gate as the trees were to low for the bus, but the second one was fine.

Marj, just at this stage not heading any further North until after the Anzac weekend. I have family commitments down this way, so I will keep colouring in the roads on the Victorian/SA map for now. Once Anzac weekend is over I want to start heading up along the coast and see if I can get to see some angry seas over the Winter. Of course this is all open to change and depending on how the wind blows.

Native Pepper, it is a beautiful spot. For those who enjoy fishing there are plenty in the lake, not sure exactly the type of fish but they are there. I am beginning to think that maybe Optus has a better coverage than Telstra. I had nothing at all most of the time, which sort of dictated in a small way to me about moving on after 2 days.

Don't be tempted to change from Telstra. There may be odd spots where there is an anomaly like above, but as you travel further afield, you will find Telstra Next G/3G coverage by far the best.

We had both optus and telstra phones until last year. when we got rid of our telstra phone, because where we spent 90% of our time, optus has better coverage and we travel well of the beaten track. If you go beyond what we would call the black stump area's, then telstra does have a better coverage, but each month is gets less and less.
