I have just joined the forum and thought I would share a bit of my story with you. am a 54 year old female, on the road with a 21.8ft supreme caravan. My two dogs Zorro and Burt have been on the road for almost a year now. As I still need to work to help fund my travels this time includes working for seven months in a caravan park. So have only done 12000.00 kms so far. I do not have a plan of where to go, travelling instead as I feel like it, as I can afford it or where I might find a part time job. The freedom I feel with this is fantastic. I am writing a blog on my travel, although it is always behind where I am, for reasons of safety. I have met quite a lot of single females and for that matter single males on the road, many of whom have been rolling along for several years.Without exception they are happy to be on the road and to have simplified their life. It is a great lifestyle and certainly one I would recommend. I use a mix of free or cheaper camping spots, mostly out of the camps books, as well as caravan parks. When free camping I make sure I camp away from towns, camp where others are already set up and stay hitched up. With my dogs, I have found the coast of New South Wales not very dog friendly compared to other states but it is still possible. Make sure you book well in advance for the holiday times as many dog parks are no longer dog friendly in peak seasons. OR parks that advertise that they are dog friendly only take one dog not two or have a weight restriction. There are still lots of things outside of national parks to do, and as long as you take care with the heat, ticks and baits, the company from your dogs far outweighs the disadvantages. Having said that if you are a single traveller and your dog is not well behaved when you leave them alone, it will be difficult. There are times that you just have to leave them in the van so you can shop, have your hair done lol etc. So for those wondering should you go and should you take your furry friends as company. Definitely yes but accept that it will affect how and where you travel. For those ladies who don't think they can manage their caravan, I would say don't discount the idea. Just plan before you go for things that can go wrong and have a back up plan. To compensate for my lack of strength for example I have extra long wheel braces and a wheel dolly to help change my 18 inch off road tyres that are big and heavy. I also have road side assistance insurance, but you cannot rely on this if you are going bush! As for towing, just go slow and carefully it's not a problem. For reversing, a reverse camera on the car and van plus good mirrors are essential. I hope this is of a little help to anyone thinking about vanning on their own. As many others in the group have said, just do it.
Hi welcome! I travel in a small motorhome with my 2 dogs, who also have a blog of our travels! May I ask, how do you hear about potential work 'up the track'? I am in the same boat, still need to do a bit of work, although I love how much I can do on so little on the road and still have a really enjoyable life!

Hello forum members. thank you all so much for your lovely welcoming messages. Im so pleased to hear feedback on the blog too. some times you wonder if anyone reads it! Pawsoz annie, hi, in regards to job hunting. I have a number of email alerts for either the towns or areas im interested in or for the types of roles. these are on indeed, simply hired, azuna etc I also look at greynomads and the backpacker websites. If im staying in a caravan park that i like, i will also make it known that i am looking for work and leave my resume with them. some times there is no work at the time but something comes up later and they are more inclined to ring you if they have met you.
