st Lawrence

Just a bouquet for the residents of St Lawrence  for their friendliness  . Jaquie at the p.o. Is a gem  she has a small general store in the p.o. So if yr stuck for bits & pieces go see what she has..she will send you down the road to Lynne if you need other stuff fresh milk in 1litre bottles  .i want to support locals who provide good rest areas ..this is worthy of support ...I think!

Must have missed you "By that much" Highwayman. I was going to stay at St Lawrence on my way through to Townsville but way to early for me to stop so kept going and now partly set up in my daughters yard in Townsville. Sort things properly tomorrow.

I have stayed at St L a few times and enjoy it very much.

Someone told me that you have to pay at St Lawrence now, When we were there we only paid for showers. Does the caretaker still bring his fresh vegies round once a week? We should be there this year as we are travelling Queensland this year should be leaving S.A. in May I think,

Hi Helena  in ans to yr question ..there is not  a set fee as such but a donation box  ..which I'm told by the post office lady has been broke into several  times & abused by writing things like" thx for the petrol money" not nice she also said there were moves to introduce a set fee .. Sad but that is life  .I make sure I don't treat good places poorly..also no grocery man I went to the store & got my own..cya roy

When we were there the caretaker used to bring fresh vegies from his own garden round in his ute and sell them to us campers. Yes unfortunately the same thing happened when we were there someone broke into the donation money and left that kind of message such a shame that just a few spoil it for the rest of us. Thanks for your reply we will probably be there this year.

Sorry to have missed you when you left Wuruma Roy. Didn't realise you were leaving so early, I would have popped up to your camp the night before.
Stay safe and have a great trip. Catch up another time.

Sounds like you are having a good time Roy - we stayed at St Laurence last year when the Campdraft was on - great fun watching the horses and riders. There was heaps of food for sale, really cheap and delicious. We had to camp on the flat area across the road, which was no problem

Out of Mackay there is a place called Boulder Creek - it is in the Camps book - go in from the Highway at Calen - about 18k in some tar, bit of gravel. A great little spot right next to a pristine creek - the water on the camp side of the bridge is good enough to drink, and there is a swimming hole down the other side a way - there is also a flushing toilet across the road from the camp. Highly recommend - we went for one night - stayed five! Yeoeleven has the details in his blog.
