Freestanding awning

Hi there

Love your knowledge.

We are newbies planning a 4 month trip in our Coromal popup which has a full canvas  annexe. We are considering fitting a pullout out awning however wish to retain the option of maintaing  our full annexe and have been considering the option of purchasing a  freestanding quick and easy to erect awning/ gazebo So we have the option of using either. Would appreciate any input with regard to quick easy to erect awning. Thankyou

ciao

They can be a nuisance if a wind gets up - then you need 2 or 3 people to dismantle them otherwise they self destruct. (to hold in wind) Have seen a few fail at local markets in winds.

If you are going to purchase a pull out awning (I assume a roll out awning) why not just buy the annex sides for that instead?  confuse

We have a roll out awning with annex sides as well as a rather heavy Gazebo complete with mesh and solid sides.  Recently I installed a track on the other side of the van with a shade cloth type wall/roof to shade the fridge side & act as a sometimes carport.

The rollout awning is used for short stays.  Sometimes I use the long wall as a privacy screen .. or the new fridge side awning hung off the roll out. Easy & quick to put up.

If we are staying put for more than 3 days, I usually install the full annex as it takes a bit of effort and  20min or so to set it up & another 20min pack up.

The Gazebo is only taken when we are going to a single camp spot because of its weight.  No trouble to put up or down but best done with a few helpers.  If there is bad weather/strong wind in the offing I drop the roof right down to the lowest point.  Always use strong guy ropes & pegs with it.

edit ...

As I said in you posting on 'Hints & Tips' ......

There is a vast range of lightweight shade cloth type side & front panels available.

They are cheap, relatively light & quick to fit.

I'd go that way ....  probably get the lot for the price of a Gazebo fitted with sides and they are much lighter & easier to carry.

Just choose the shade cloth or canvas/vinyl annex as the occasion demands.

I reckon that unless you are in strong windy rain or cold situation, you will choose the shade cloth.
