It's been a while, but I thought I'd better check in.
Work has been quiet due to many factors, and then the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator brought the whole industry to a screaming halt in February, and it's still not running smoothly. So you may notice the absence of oversize loads out there on the highways.
Then I had a bit of a tumble out of Betty's driver door. I got up to the top step and lost my footing and hand grip, causing me to fall flat on my back, rear, shoulder and head, mostly on the left side. So I'm now nursing a fractured shoulder blade back to health, and all the injured muscles and body parts which were damaged on the concrete driveway of the Ceduna BP.
I had to fly to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for further assessment, to determine if I needed surgery. Fortunately I didn't but I had to leave my "bus" in Ceduna and the nice guys at Ceduna Motors stored Betty on power for 2 weeks. A fellow pilot brought her home, while I was convalescing at my daughter's place at Edithburgh.
I'm spending my down time working on pilot driver administration for the National Pilot Vehicle Drivers Association, as the Publicity and PR Officer.
Safe and happy travels to you all.

I wondered where you had been kept looking for a post from you. Hope you are feeling better now and that things are on the mend. You need to take more water with it next time. Seriously though hope you are feeling a lot better a fall can really shake you up.
Jules is right, Granny, we ain't as agile as we useta was. I had a handle attached to the doorway of my rig for just such an eventuality as yours. Another thing I've often wondered is who takes care of the rig if for some reason you're incapacitated? From what I read on the forum, there's always another GN somewhere who's willing to help, which is a comforting thought for us solos.
Glad to hear you are on the mend, What an awful thing to happen. As I have the same MH as you I often think about what would happen if I missed the step, usually getting out so I put a strip of wide yellow tape on the step to remind me it is there. Also put a sticker on the door ledge under the window all to remind me there is a step and and try to prevent a fall.

What CG didnt say was that she (being a silly bugger) climbed up off the step onto the front wheel arch ,hanging onto a roof rack to give her wayward beacon a smack to pull it into gear . Being such a independent bugger she didnt ask 1 of the younger truck drivers she was escorting to do it .
Hope you are better soon and back on the road, CG.
Do the hiccups over Heavy Vehicles mean that, when they get it sorted, there is going to be more of them on the roads than usual, while they get through the backlog??
Thanks for the wishes folks. It really is great to have friends and a great network of acquaintances in the "nomad" world and the pilot circles.
The oversize permit system is slowly recovering but it won't be quite what it was 12 months ago.
There are several factors which slow things down, but it will recover eventually.
And as for Tim the Truckie, apart from the fact he's a good mate and I couldn't manage without him sometimes, he's a dobber.
I will be back on the road as soon as the arm is strong enough to change gears on "Betty Benz".

HA! Dobbed in by TimtheTruckie!!!! But don't we all do stupid things sometimes - I once was in a hurry and got my toe caught in one of those grey plastic caravan steps - flat on my face!!!! Injured pride!!!

Good to hear from you CG. Take care and hopefully you will be back on the road sooner rather than later.
Just as an aside, Marian and Peter are doing two up from Perth. Yes she finally got her truckie licence and is driving the big rigs. I am amazed at my little sister and the size of the rigs she is driving, makes Miss Daisy look like a dinky toy.

Oh wow! Thanks for the Pete and Marian update Shekon. Nice to "meet" you here.
She worked very hard to get that licence, so now she can achieve another of her ambitions.
I have a phone call a few months ago with an update.
Travel comes in many forms, but as long as I'm on the road, I'm happy.
I've been grounded for 4 weeks now and I'm getting stir crazy. Patience is not one of my better qualities.

Hi Colls. Have you been travelling? I'm sure I'll get back to WA sometime soon.
The industry has been quiet due to a major stuff up by the former government which manifested itself on 10/02/14, and now everyone else is trying to fix it.
So there isn't much work around. It's a good time to be grounded, if ever there's a good time to be grounded with a fractured shoulder blade.

Boy oh boy Billee! There's a couple of photos you could have lost or even deleted. Ah, the days at Nindigully.
Now Billee, back away from the camera, slowly back away now.
