I have discovered on of the best camp spots near Melbourne I think. It is at the Berwick Showgrounds. Only room for about 20 vans so you have to ring to book. Well best too anyways. Water and power, the amenities block is awesome, dump point, and a short walk to supermarkets, hotel and little restaurants. Had the best Thai meal last night in ages.
This morning is a huge market to attend. It has everything you could think of.
The cost is $20 per night, it is safe, secure, and quiet. The caretaker is lovely and meets you at the gate, makes sure you are settled and then leaves you alone. He lives off site. Would certainly recommend to anybody who needs to park up near Melbourne. It is not that far from the Monash Fwy so a quick trip into town if you have to.
Certainly a little hidden gem.
Telephone. 0427 057 768 or (03) 9707 2763. The details are also on Wikicamps.

I am fun and adventure. So much to see, so much to do, so many people to meet. Will see, do, and meet all that I can.
The market was wonderful Highwayman. Not being from this side of Melbourne I had no idea this was here so for me a great find. Found myself a really warm snuggly pair of outdoor ugg boots yesterday. Great for the following Winter months and happy hours that are hopefully to be enjoyed as I travel.
Glad you have such a good spot Shekon. I have been to the markets there, they are good, love your boots they sure look snug! I remember I had lovely scones and tea there. I will be flying to Melbourne in about 4 weeks to visit friends at Berwick, and then to visit family in Warrnambool, what a shame it is not now, would have loved to have caught up with you.Have fun
cheers Bronnie

We totally agree shekon, we have been using the show ground for quite some time now as a stop over when we come back to Melb. It's within about 5 mins from my kids place so it's the best around. The caretaker is a great guy so easy to get on with and always willing to fit you in if he can.
so caretakers old take a leaf out of his book
