I have recently installed a rear view camera with a 7" monitor in the car. I took the power for the camera from the van's side lights as I tend to tow with them on and this seemed a reasonable concept.
All works very well except that whenever I apply the brakes or use the traffic indicators the screen gives a little flicker (the screen is powered from the cigarette lighter socket).
Does anyone have a solution to remove the flicker?
G'day John, you have interference in your system and as brakes, indicators, sidelights are all interrelated, your problem lies there. Take the power from the fuse box, if you connect it to the ignition or accessories, it will only come on when you start or have accessories going. This way you get power before it gets to items that create interference, like flashers brake switches etc.
Our rear and side camera's are connected to the buses ignition, no interference from there and the screen runs through a 24v-12v small converter. Bought a box full from china a couple of years ago for less than $15 each, thought they may only last a year or so, so far the one I'm using, hasn't stopped working. At least we won't run out of small voltage converters for many years. It's the same with our cars, camera's are connected via accessories, with no problems. Hope that helps.
Thanks native pepper for your reply. I had thought of running a dedicated power line back to the camera and I may do it one day. At the moment I am rewiring the camera so that it is a neater installation and I will see whether I still have a flicker once this is finished. John
