Neville Hewitt Weir at Baralaba

Moving steadily north I have arrived at Neville Hewitt weir once again, Paul arrived some time later but Rod and Nitaya will arrive in Monday.

http://yeoeleven.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/neville-hewitt-weir-baralaba.html

There is a group here that camped nearby at Dawson River, the ones who have the poodle called Lulu a ridiculous dog that barks whenever anyone goes by and once got off the lead at Dawson's and it took five to finally catch it, all yelling Lulu as they tried. Absolutely no sense and even less discipline. It is a church group, apparently, and very organised they are sitting around playing scrabble, this morning they were playing musical instruments and singing but then it is Sunday.

It is a good spot here but you have to be lucky to find good sunlight for the solar but there is plenty of room for camping, last time I only had Optus and could not gain internet access but now with Telstra I have 5 bars but no Optus phone. Plenty of town tap water, flushing toilets and a cold shower with walking access to the town makes this a good place to stay for a week nor so.

I have been busy ordering from the internet, this time I have ordered a folding table that fixes to the side of the bus. All the options that I could find had a minimum of 800mm wide but the space I have available is only 700mm. Eventually I found one 650mm wide from Nomadic but it was $300 delivered and I pondered over it for a couple of days before splurging. Delivery Blackwater P.O.   John

Hello John and it is a great spot
The butcher had a specials board on the toilet block and I think it was bacon chops, taken off legs of ham, just great on the barbie

According to plan Rod and Nitaya arrived on Monday and now are camped here.

Monday Paul and I went up to the township and was able to buy a tin to cook 6 cup cakes, we also gathered some firewood. Tuesday and it was decided to cook up the chocolate muffins in the afternoon with my trusty Coleman oven, all in all it worked out well but got very messy when I tried to pour the chocolate frosting over the muffins. Rod had the right idea, as usual, he dipped the muffins into the chocolate and with a smooth twist of his wrist was able to do the job better.

Wednesday morning and Paul decided to move out and go back home, apparently his tenant complained about the status of the garden and to our surprised took off to fix the problem. Hopefully by the time I get to Elphinstone he will have had his planned surgery to remove some melanoma and be well enough to catch up again. It seems that the two main areas of problem for the traveller are property and family, either of which can cause a dramatic change of plans.

So here it is on Wednesday afternoon and we may decide to cook pancakes in my new campfire frying pan I say we but in practice the only help I usually get is comment telling me how I should have done it. I have bought Whitewings Shaker pancake Golden Syrup (just add water) and Green's Pancake Shake vanilla all with full instructions. No problems until I start to get into it but I am confident that they will taste great as did the messy muffins.   John

Sounds like you are living the life of luxury nowa days John. You might have to practice making date scones so you can give Mr Kiwi a run for his money. Oh! Copper1 makes a mean scone on his Weber Baby Q too.

John, sounds as though you are doing really well and enjoying life to the max..... oh oh MAX, there it is again!!!!!

Green's pancake mix, makes the best pancakes, you made a good choice there. Mr Green also makes the best self saucing pudding mix.

Certainly out here on the road some of the meals that us GN's make and enjoy are better than any 5**** resturant.

Tonight here at Dalmeny Point we enjoyed the following....... doesn't get much better than this. image.jpg

So Paul's tenant complained about the state of the garden? If anyone complains about the state of the garden here it's the landlord. It's my responsibility to keep the place tidy.

Hi Sharon,

I am improving on the cooking front and acquiring more helpful tools, the biggest plus is the freezer which opens the door to lots more food options.

Still slowly working my way north before the westerly trip to Tennant Creek. CYA  John

The pancakes mentioned in an earlier post went ok eventually after turning down the gas and being more patient. Thursday I set up the choofer and did my potato bake, getting better at that too using the spacer from the pressure cooker and a foil dish. Talking about pressure cooker I used it to do my pickled pork specialty. All this talk about food is because when I went on the road I had never cooked a meal and for the first couple of years only opened cans, bottles and paper packets so I am progressing.

Saturday and I walked up to the opp shop it only opens on Saturday mornings and I wanted more books. I took up a bag full of read ones and a pair of jeans that I bought whilst visiting Eilden, my cooking seems to be working 'cos I am getting fat and the jeans won't fit. It must be that or either I am not climbing mountains and doing vigorous trecks etc. like I used to.

Pack up day tomorrow ready for the trip to Bedford Weir and hopefully pick up the table ordered previously for delivery to the Blackwater P. O.  John

Sounds good young fella. At the rate we're moving you may end up in front of us, lol. What's your plan after Bedford Weir, west through Emerald or Elphinstone, etc.

Yes Sharon Rod had the maple syrup and nice it is too, ready for the next batch.

Darrell the plan is to go to Sapphire followed by Bundoora then Elphinstone after Bedford. Hopefully a week at each stopover.

Good if that fits in with your plans, look forward to catching up again. Hi Sandra, got to keep in the good books.

CYA John
