Hi guys can anyone tell me about what computer they are using? We will be traveling indefinitely and want to be able to stay in touch with the Grandkids via Skype.We have thought of buying a laptop and running a GPS through it as we are driving as well as utilizing Google maps along the way to show any areas of interest. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have a iPad that I use every day connected to the Internet via the personal hot spot on my iPhone. I also have a laptop that I use mainly for pics and anything else the iPad won't do, I only get that out as needed. My iPhone is a blue tick phone for extra rural coverage and I am with Telstra. Skype works on both iPad and Lap Top. All works for me.

1. A GPS on a tablet or Ithingy generally needs access to wi-fi to get its signal so it can update where as a true GPS accesses the satellites and is always able to locate itself in real time.
2. While photos taken on a tablet or phone may look good on the device used to take them, when you try to show them on a large screen such as a TV or even a large laptop screen their short comings are apparent.
I have only just discovered this after I bought a 7 inch tablet thinking it would mean I would not have to carry a laptop, a camera, a GPS and a mobile phone on my next trip.
A friend whose opinion I value explained that while the tablet I bought could do all those things it would involve substantial compromises.
