Hi Billeee & Jules,

still following your travels with interest, I didn't go down to Marble Bar all those broken lines on the map put me off. I like round trips without unmade roads.

Missed De Greys too in favour of Cape Kedaudren. clearly missed a good spot.

John

Mmmmm! Lovely fish. But, owing to circumstances beyond my control at the mo, I'll settle for a bowl of tartare and a spoon.

But don't go in summer unless you have good aircon......see this link;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_Bar,_Western_Australia

And like barrie says, pour some water on the Jasper Bar in the creek bed, take a bottle of water and mostly dry....

some time ago the publican walked out and it was closed to a few months, good to see it is open again.

and good to see the Atlantic Salmon is still on the menu, looks like it came from Coles or Wollies. biggrin

Billeeeeeee (7 e's) finds Atlantic Salmon anywhere he goes, he has even found one at Greens Lake in Central Vic, even in the bath one day.

Don't forget to throw some water on the rocks before you take your photos. Great free camping on the Coongan River to boot, very relaxing. Enjoy.

No worries Frangipani, lots on here with good info and in some cases more up to date than me.   Been a couple of years since I've been to Marble Bar, but well worth the visit, even if you have to return on the bitumen.

On my first trip I cut across on the dirt roads from the coastal highway via Shay Gap to Marble Bar, then the dirt road from there to Newman via Nullagine (sometimes closed due to flooding etc).

One place I would not miss in a hundred years despite the distance, may go again one day! biggrin

Love the Atlantic salmon bit, we are in Denham WA currently and went for fish and chips,

I asked "is it local fish" her "no, local fish is just too expensive" me " Oh what fish is it" "Its some kind of snapper" " me "I've never heard of Vietnamese snapper" her " It must be perch then" me "so not Australian then !"
her "Its a lovely fish in beer batter"

It actually tasted ok but at $20 I suppose it should, Shark Bay, fish everywhere and bloody Vietamese imported fish.

Has anyone one got a pic of the "Choc Top" hills you see on the way out to Marble Bar they could post here please.

They are something unique and worth seeing (from the main bitumen road into MB).....
