I love getting lost.

image.jpgI have decided that there are many advantages about having no sense of direction. I had a great day today, another one of those days when I should have turned right but decided to keep going.

I spent the weekend in Inverell, and left today. I called in on some friends of friends of mine who live on Old Bundarra Road about 7k out of Inverell. That was an interesting meeting, saying hello to people that I have never met before and knew nothing about except that they are close friends of my friends in Adelaide. All good, had a cuppa, a bit of a chat and a laugh and then headed off to Guyra.

I was suppose to turn down a dirt corrugated road that would have taken me back onto the highway, but I decided nup, that is too boring so lets see what is down this way and I continued straight on. Over a red dirt road once the bitumen ran out, and through scrub, back onto the bitumen again, before finally turning right to head to Guyra. This road took me through scrub, large properties, little 2 house towns, well I guess they are towns, they had names on signposts. I went up the hills, across the top, and down the other side again. It was wonderful. No traffic, I toodled along at my own pace and seen country that I would not have seen if I had kept to the main road. It is great getting lost.

I made it to Guyra, and decided to, wait for it, go up to Armidale tomorrow. Well of course, Sharon, thought she had better get the map out to see how far it is, only to discover Armidale is down south from here. Oh well, that is life, so I will head north tomorrow to who knows where. Depends wether I take the main road or a country road again.

Getting lost is wonderful unless you have to be where your going by a certain time.  As you don't maybe its just your intuition that tells you to go left or right.

I get lost all the time, I think its okay

I cant wait to get on the road and get lost smile

I can not imagine how cold it would be waking up in Guyra this morning.

Well done Shekon, we enjoy and look forward to your posts. We have been getting lost for 12 months now and enjoyed every unplanned turn. Our only guide has been a general heading of " north ish", but that's just changed to " south west ish". Everyday rides on a whim. We always remember what my Dad once said to me " we all have the same destination, it's only the quality of the journey that matters".
We are privileged to have this lifestyle.

Thanks guys. I do enjoy writing, one of the things I do on the road at times.
FrednCaz, it is freezing here. -4.5 first thing this morning. Warming up now to what looks like a beautiful day.
Hopefully meeting up with Nelly for lunch before moving on this afternoon.

You can find some great spots by getting lost or taking the different roads..

I know when I was traveling in the USofA that as long as I was going in the right direction I was going to get to the location somehow..

Traveling the small roads can lead to some great sights..

I do love to take the odd roads to get places..

Especially if you have a camera handy..

Getting lost is not such a bad thing ,

but running out of fuel trying to find the correct way back

to home camp,  this is where the stress and anxiety revs up to a undesired level

trust in ones innate sense of direction  might not always pay dividends

I always carry a reserve container of fuel , usually 10lt.

this usually removes the stress  from being lost

overall it is far better to advoid being lost .

cheers from Paul
