Left Home Hill early for the 250km trip to Boulder Creek and had a break at a day camp just after Bowen coming south called Georges Beach opposite the Big Mango. There is a beautiful view if you walk down the track to the beach, not a swimming beach with mangroves just out from the beach area.

Kicked on and made it to Boulder Creek by 1pm then the setting up. Want to stay here for a few days so got it all out from the rubber floor mat up to the anti flapper kit and shades. This place has many pleasant memories for me starting in May 2012 when I went swimming in the Creek to everyone's amazement and then the 2 weeks in July 2013 when Billeee and Jules visited with Solo Steve. The girls who wrote up the article in the Huffington Post stopped here for over a week also. Had to go swimming again with them, very cold it was, spectacular viewing from my perspective.

Went down to the swimming hole again it may get action from me later during a hot day but for now took more photos. Clearly the internet coverage is better this year 'cos I have had no problems uploading these pics.    John

Make sure you water the flowers in the toot John.

And go stand next to the table with the sign on it and thank the family as I did in memory of their son.

 Yes Doug did that.

Was going to use the chainsaw enroute to Boulder Creek but there was a broken pallet opposite on the rubbish at Home Hill and I asked the workman if I could have it and he was pleased to see it go. I have broken it down and used it last night for a fire in the choofer (jaffles) the slats burn quickly and the blocks provide the necessary coals. I have lots left and plan potato bake for tonight. 

The camper next door had transmission problems and needed a tow truck to get his late model 4WD to the RACQ at Calen, he came back with a rented car and is waiting for a phone call to determine his problem. Sometimes I think that I am lucky with the older vehicle with less complications, the 1979 Hi Ace never left me stranded the road neither has the 1980 Coaster. Had a few problems but never needed a tow except 100 mtrs back to Chris's place in Frankston but I was on borrowed time with the Hi Ace then.

Quiet day today have some good books per the Opp shop in Home Hill and plan to sit around socializing and enjoying my outdoor set up. It was in the low 30's yesterday with more to come today might even go for a swim, the fast running clear water comes down from the hills and is nippy to say the least.   John

A beautiful place to kick back and read a book John, as well as socialising a bit - make sure you do go swimming if there are any female Italian backpackers there - remember last time!!!!! Woohoo!!!

 Jules, how could I forget.

Went another exploration this morning and found a touching memorial to a love bird who had 9 years with it's owner, in front of the cross is a bottle with the utensils that were used and above the cage where it lived.

Further down the track and I came across another view of the creek from a crossing that tractors use. I have included a pic of the signage at Boulder Creek, Camps call it Boulder Creek whilst Wikicamps call it Windyloo.        John

Another couple of quiet days but Sid drove in and has set up camp next to me, so that is good. Pat came in but only stopped for one night complaining of health problems and took off for St Lawrence and the hot showers. Set up the Coleman Hot Water On Demand to do a dual function, provide hot water for washing up as well as hot water for a shower. Have Rod to thank for this idea he sets up like this every time.

The quiet days and fire opportunities has given me plenty to do, the first night it was jaffles, the next was potato bake and last night I used the cast iron frying pan to cook up chips and spring rolls from the freezer. Am at last enjoying my own cooking it has taken three years but at last I can cook an enjoyable meal.

 

This morning I got out the pancake mix and added water to the bottle and cooked pikelets. A much better result that the last couple of times when they got stuck to the pan and broke open when trying to flip them. I added more oil and made the pan level and must have used the right amount of water, in any case they came out better this time.   John

Not much happening today just a gradual pack up ready for the off tomorrow. Want to go south via Eton and Homebush to check out the General Gordon, a pub mentioned in Camps for overnight camping then on to St Lawrence for a week.

G'day John,

we stayed at the General Gordon last year for a couple of nights, was $10/n then. You "park" in the area at the back of the pub. Nice atmosphere and the pub does great meals.

Lots of history on display and the timber furniture in the dining area is amazing.

Yes, I can recommend the General Gordon, stayed there a couple of years back, run by two females then, a great mob.
