hello all just became new member to the forum, myself and the minister are planning to start travelling soon but need some advise on travel cost so if any members out there have kept a log of travel cost we would love to hear from them so we plan our trips properly.

I personally don't keep a log as such as I reckon if I saw in writing how much it "really" costs I woul think twice maybe. Just my thought on that. Sometimes I keep a record of km travelled just out of curiosity only. I had a job in my previous life that required me to to budget's and forward planning, including spread sheets etc so enjoy my travelling without all that.
I am about to go on the road full time so all that might change.

I have just decided that I've had enough of being on the jobseeker scrapheap, and if I'm prepared to live in relative poverty I can just afford to become a full-time grey nomad.
I'm curious to find out just how many creature comforts I can live without. A big rig or fifth wheeler with standing room and all mod cons would be great, but that's never going to happen. I have a basic Hi Ace van in which I have a single bunk, a porta-potti and a folding table and chair. I guess I will need to get a portable stove if I want to be able to cook or at least heat some water for a coffee, but do I really need a fridge? A generator? An annexe? What can other GN's tell me about absolute 'minimalist' solo travelling?

Rudy I only have a Toyo Hilux ute with a covered in back(bedroom) and will probably tow my box trailer with the motorbike and other required odds and ends.I think if you are dry,safe and feeling good you should be fine. Take care. Pugs

We know from experience it can be costly(the initial set up) but once you have your main necessities it's basically fuel and living expenses. I have seen and heard many people on a pension do it, making it possible for others i guess. We are all different and like or need different things..
