Dickabram Bridge. Miva just north of Gympie

Had a big day driving yesterday after Agnes Waters I decided against going to Norval Park and continued to Bundaberg, Childers, Maryborough and on to Tiaro. I have camped at Petrie Park on the Mary River previously but the camp in town won the day with hot showers in the disabled toilets just above the camp.

Just overnight then on to Dickabram Bridge, Miva. Can't find any reference either in Camps or WikiCamps but Googled it with the following result.

http://www.findacamp.com.au/camp-site.php?camp=773

This is an excellent camp ground with flushing toilets electric barbecues, shaded tables and benches. Not a big camp ground but with no nominated time restrictions. Plan to leave Sunday morning and am expecting visitors tomorrow, Cruising Cruse, John and Marjoleine are planning to camp here for a while and it will be great to catch up again we were at Wuruma Dam together.    John

Started on a polish of the bus and have completed half, the sun was on the awning side so I have done the drivers side. Washed and polished below the windows and the front, the roof has been painted with some sun resistant, insulating paint and I am leaving that so see how it fares, the bubbled surface looks impervious to the suns rays.

Bad news for future campers here at Dickabram Bridge, the council has sent out men to measure up to create walls to prevent campers vehicles accessing the best area and thus using it for day trippers only. Just goes to show how some individuals can spoil it for the rest, one guy camped here for 2 months and had to be asked to move on. Backpackers broke into a house nearby and also damaged the pumping arrangements for water to the toilets and left a mess to clean up. The police caught up with them so they haven't got off free.

John and Marjoleine arrived here as planned and are now set up alongside me. Had a busy day and lit the choofer deciding to cook my favourite camp oven meal tonight, potato bake using Heather's suggestion of french onion simmer sauce, yummy should have been enough for tomorrow as well but ate the lot.

Wow how quick was that the council workmen arrived this morning and started putting up posts and dividing the area. The good thing is that whilst the area has been divided 72hr camping is allowed but the area has been drastically reduced as the photo will show.   John

What a shame John, such a nice place by the look of it. I was going to go there in the future but might have to rethink perhaps now.

There is space left for camping but the choice spots along the river can't be accessed.

The job is completed now and we have been left a lock to snap in place when we leave on Sunday morning, very quiet here just now we are the only campers.

Finished polishing the bus now and was able to borrow a council ladder to wash the roof and more importantly the solar panels.

I used to consider my best meal to be Chicken Tonight with chicken noodles but now with the freezer I actually have chicken breasts and frozen vegetables so now this is the latest, cooked last night with enough for another night.

Slice the breasts and chop up an onion then cook up in a frypan until almost cooked. Add frozen vegetables the small cubed ones using the spatula constantly then add the Chicken Tonight (Honey Mustard) and rinse out the bottle back into the cooking. Keep on with the mixing and stirring until the surplus liquid has rendered down.

The freezer, plus the additional solar and batteries, was the best improvement to my lifestyle since the Hi Ace days.   John

Sunday morning and ready for the off and I am looking back over a couple of days. Went for a walk over the bridge, quite a scary walk hoping that the timber planks were really secure it is a long way down. Taken a pic of the tracks running across, it was originally a train line but that has long been discontinued.

Met a young man yesterday who looks to be ready to jump into the big time in skate board riding, he has been skating since he was 5 and now is 17. During that time has broken his legs, arms, ribs and had a cracked skull. He is sponsored by Nike and has won many competitions locally as well as Australia wide and has been invited to Los Angeles to compete in a world class event next year. His photo will appear on the front page of the next skateboarding magazines in Australia. Corey Flick is his name and he is living with his Grandfather near to the bridge and was boarding past the camp when we met.    John

Corey might appreciate an introduction to your French or German back packers John smile

See what you mean by the bridge John. I think I would tread very carefully too.

Be careful John - we are not there to take you to hospital - and your contingent of ladies is not around to care for you!!!!!

Good luck to young Corey - my son and his mates used to skateboard, then roller blade - went in blade competitions and won a few trophies!

Hi All

We called into the bridge for morning tea back early July and the discussion was the way the dirty nomads had left this spot was totally xxxxxxxxx.

We spent some time cleaning the area, they had dug holes to level there 2 axle caravan, the fire pit was still warm with excessive amount of ash.

Good on you guys nice work thank you very much.

I was looking forward to spending sometime there in the future. I guess that won't happen. Ralph.
