I called into this camp which is in two parts, an upper level and a lower level. It is shown in the Camps book and I would say probably Wikicamps (I don't have that).
Although the main turn road is bitumen, the actual track into the camp is grave and deeply rutted and I would imagine very slippery in the wet. Unless you are 4WD or have a small van I would not drive down to the lower level which was very steep and water rutted and goes over small dry creekbed (at least it was in Sep 2014) which I imagine would fill with water when it rains.
I did drive down it in a 2WD but would not recommend it, stay on the upper level. May be ok for 4WD and camper trailers etc.
This private video off U tube has a good coverage of the two sites, when the sound stops on the first bit keep watching as it moves on to the 2nd camp below and also the Spring. No drinking water or toilets, the nearest toilets and drinking water are at Clackline rest area about 4 kms west of the camp area on the Gt Eastern Highway.
The camp area turns back towards the Gt Eastern Highway when you drive in and there is some traffic noise from the Hwy. Dogs allowed.
I saw it at night, there was on motorhome on the upper level, but I decided to drive on to The Lakes Roadhouse and Takeaway. After refuelling and having a bite to eat I parked at the rear on level ground and slept the night there (not official, but nobody bothered me).
Snip.....I saw it at night, there was on motorhome on the upper level, but I decided to drive on to The Lakes Roadhouse and Takeaway. After refuelling and having a bite to eat I parked at the rear on level ground and slept the night there (not official, but nobody bothered me).
Late Warning on Lakes Roadhouse and Takeaway. On the news tonight (I slept there 6 nights ago) there was a robbery from car occupants at this place at night.
I noticed when I stopped there at night the roadhouse and takeaway were both locked and you had to be viewed before they would let you in and locked the door behind you.
A google showed there have been a number of robberies there at night both at the roadhouse and adjacent take-away, if I had known at the time I would not have stayed there at the Lakes.....
