Bugger.... Precisely why I'm hitting the road about 18 years before my retirement date...

Of course that is the retirement date according to Government.

Settlement on my house was supposed to be today, I pushed it back a week. Glad I did.

I cannot tell you how many kindly friends have said "oooooooohhhhhhh, don't sell up, what if something bad happens? What happens if you get sick?" "what if, what if, what if??!!!"

So I ignored all that, as is my nature, and carried on regardless smile

Long story short, got a letter last Weds from Breast Screen Vic. Went in for an ultrasound today, which led to a core biopsy. Get the results on Thursday, the day I was due to leave on my big adventure. Not exactly the news I wanted to hear, a big shock really. Came home and pushed back the furniture removal date to Friday, cos now I can't lift things or do much for a few days. Guess I'll leave on the weekend or maybe Monday, settlement date.

Yes, I'm a bit freaked out, but of one thing I am completely sure. I'm hitting the road. Where there is a will, there's a way. To me it just proves one thing. I'm here for a good time, not a long time.

If (and hopefully it won't be) I have to hang around Victoria for treatment, so be it. But I will not change my mind. There are adventures to be had and I say "bring them on" biggrin Does a roof over my head really make such a huge difference to a caravan roof? I don't think so...... wink

Mary Jane, sorry to hear about your news. Keep a positive mind set and lets hope for the best. Go out there and enjoy as you are planning on doing so. Does a solid roof make a difference to your health, I personally don't think so. Your Caravan will be your sanctuary, and think of the plus side, if you are laid up for a bit, the housework will not be an issue and no garden to take care of.

Take care and wishing you all the very best for a positive outcome.

How,

I hope all goes well with the test's MJ. I don't wish any illness on you but I reckon you can be just as sick on the road as at home and I know where I would rather be. Keep ya chin up and be very possitive and all will be good for you. You seem a very possitve person so will find that easy.

yeah, don't wait to you retire to get out and see Australia...

I've heard too many stories of people retiring and falling off the perch within months or even weeks..

all the best..

Good luck with the test result MJ, agree with the others, you can still camp up locally in a CP while having tests/treatment etc if you need to.

Sorry to hear of the delay but hopefully the tests will return negative. Di and I did exactly what you've done (sold the house etc) and we have regretted it one little bit.

I had the big C news over 6 years ago.

Told them I was too busy and if they needed to go ahead tell me how it went when and iff I get back.

Still having a ball and feel great and still have not gone back to see how they went with the operation without me LOL.

I think the life on the road is one of the best medicines you can have.

If you want /need to follow the doctors the so be it but follow your heart.

Hope your news is good and you can get away and enjoy life on the road.

Regards
Brian

Life on the road is one of the best medicines you can have. That's very encouraging to read, Brian, and I can't wait to prove that it's true for myself. Go for it, MJ!

Not good news - I had a scare a few years back, but all was ok, thankfully! You will be right, just do what you have to do, and you can travel a long way over Victoria, and still have your treatment. Your van IS now your home - sending goodness your way.

So now my next biggest decision is do I head in an Easterly direction, or a Westerly? I like those sort of quandaries....

thanks again smile

You could also head in a northerly but then again you could head in a southerly, confused? Why should you be different to me MJ.

Good luck with your travels. Did you get your mirrors sorted ?

I decided to stick with current wobbly, shaky mirrors, cos a new mob are competing with Clearview, so I'll watch that space ;)

and I'm thinking West, SW, NW, N then E....... Covering some old but comfortable ground!

similar to Jules said, do a spin and see, or just see how I feel when I finally leave wink

Great news! Now go before something else gets in the way.. Im only 5 months behind you :)

I must say I've had similar (your comment below) and advice etc.  Seems like there are alot of scared people out there....

Great news.
Get that key in the ignition and get going.
For the first corner toss a coin and then drive for a planned distance either 50ks or 300ks but no further and then find a camp site and stop and take a big breath.
Don't move the next day if you can and then sit back and think with a clear head just what you really want to do.
I never really plan where I am going till the morning, I decide the night before that I MAY move but decide where after brecky.
I stop every week somewhere for three days to rest and recharge MY batteries so I am refreshed and ready to move on.
You have the rest of your life so don't go past anything, and be prepared to retrace your track to see that special place you have been told about as you will forget the next time you come around.
See you out there somewhere, YAHOOOOOOO or as Billeeeeeee would say GET EXCITED.

Regards
Brian

Great news Mary Jane - is there anywhere not too far from where you are living that you haven't seen or have wanted to see - you could go there and then off into the sunset or sunrise - whichever way. Keep well and happy travels.

hi maryjane, news like that sucks. fingers crossed all is ok. I am in the same boat with regards health and need to hang around Brisbane for another 6 months at least. but I would rather be in the van going from place to place than sitting at home looking at 4 walls.
