With all the chat of 'what if', I would like to share this. My Dad and his brother had the poem drilled into them by their Dad, and my Dad knocked it into me.....
'if' by rudyard kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master, If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
Didn't Mr Kipling spend much of his time in India? I know that some Indian philosophies warn of forming attachments, like placing too much importance on material possessions.

I don't know Gary... But your question had me intrigued so I researched him and the poem... I found this interesting...
Im still trying the break the wife in to allowing me to travel... She doesn't want to and I am desperate and love it.
Ive had the motorhome and done plenty of short trips, just came back from nearly 3 months away and after just a few days at home Im starting to get the itch.... SWMO (she who must be obeyed) told me tonight that she will let me go travelling without the performances.... I loved that bit of good news. I can now plan my next adventure.. I want to head to SA maybe Port Lincoln and across to WA... Not sure yet as its early days..
What I noticed on my last trip was that I don't get sufficient exercise... I put on 3 KG and I don't like it.. Being overweight adds to the issues we face as we get older...
Ill have to set up some sort of exercise regime.. Maybe Stepups, and carry a few weights... Anyone got any suggestions?
Good on you Laurens - (isuzuswag) - that you enjoyed your trip, and looking at more - they Eyre Peninsula is great, what I have seen of it so far, and going across the Nullarbor is a great adventure - lots to see and do, and camp!
Walking, walking - we should all do it, and you see so much when you walk (and no, I don't walk anywhere near enough these days).
