My sincere thanks to the seven people who replied to my earlier (first) post on this forum.  You have confirmed my opinion that Darwin is not an RV friendly place.   Two years ago I was unimpressed with the 'Council's' approach to the RV community and it appears from internet postings, that things have only got worse.

I am heading off in a week, but having travelled north to Port Augusta (from home, Port Lincoln) instead of continuing north, I think I will head south east, catch the ferry to Tassie, and enjoy some cool green instead of the hot, humid NT.

Kind regards to all of you 'travellers' out there.  May your roads be easy and fuel tanks bottomless.

Tassy is great in the summer - we went over in November 2012 and came back Mrch 2013 - heaps of free or low cost camps - one of the best things we did was the fast yellow boat ride off Bruney Island! Spectacular!

And the humidity is killing us up here ATM. First rains have fallen since April so its greening up. We just soooooo want to leave now, tassie sounds great.

Glad we did not stay in HDoo beyond August. the humidity was beginning to creep up even then.

hi guys,

Just back from 2 months in Tassie. Great place, some places/things are expensive, so check that out before you book something.

I do NOT recommend Longford Caravan Park, arrogant and rude people and noisy at night with trains, trucks and the church bell !!
The bakery is great and there is a meat factory/butcher on the way into town that sells retail.

There is NO caravan park in Westbury - Andys Caravan Park has closed down

If you stay at Deloraine CP they ask if you are from Tas, if not you pay $5 a night more !

If you go to Rosebery, don't buy coffee from the bakery, unless you like it to resemble dish water.

Great Pizza at Strahan, pizza shop. Don't bother with Molly's place/cafe, rubbish and over priced for what you get.

Must see The Highland Lakes and travel towards Derwent Bridge to see "The Wall", really worth a visit - Google it before you go.

Learn to shuck your own oysters, if you go to Bruny Island you can buy them for $8 doz, or $15 if they are already opened.

When you go to Devonport have money for the parking meters, they will get you ! Most towns have them.

Could go on and on.....but will leave it at that.
