Hello from jafan

G'day all Nomads, recently joined the forum & found some great reading, thanks. The wife & I have enjoyed our past road trips towing our Viscount Ambassador caravan which has been updated. No need to worry about starting up conversations when on the road as the van is an instant talking point with fellow travellers as its in near mint condition for its 42 years & people are drawn to it like a magnet. We have travelled Vic & NSW extensively, also parts of southern QLD, so still heaps to see & learn in the future. All of our trips have been based in caravan parks, but now I want to free camp so I am working on what extra gear is needed to be added to make the van comfortable for self sufficient camping. I have been enjoying Yeoeleven's blog which has been a great read, thanks John. We have the Camps book so that's a start, I brought an Oztrail ensuite tent for the shower/dunny arrangements & the van has gas/electric appliances & 12v lights, it also has its own battery & extra 12v sockets wired in. But still lots to gather, solar, genny, inverter, extra water tank, Coleman HWS, ect ect, & lots  to learn around free camping, so I can see a shake down trip to maybe "Greens Lake" which is not to far when I have gathered what's needed. I'll get a Grey Nomad sticker for the rear of the van. Looking forward to the future trips & may well get to meet up with some of you on the road or at Greens. Thanks again for a great forum

Welcome to the gang jafan, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Sounds like you have the basics anyway for your future plans and Greens Lake is the best place to test it all out.

Enjoy and keep safe.

Welcome to the forum from us too (although we haven't been on for ages ourselves). As Dougwe says, looks like you could go now for short trips. We can do 3 days freecamping and we don't have solar. Why 3 days? Because I want to have a shower. But if we put our tent up, that wouldn't even be an excuse. We find we can use LED lights for 2 nights and use our fridge on gas and cook on a butane cooker or the van's cooker. When it's dark... go to bed. Try it for a couple of nights. Then go and get the extras if you need them.smile
