The Pound Dog

This was written by a lady who runs a Puppy Rescue in SA

The Pound dog...
from the heart, Heather.

As we drive up to the pound..
I see you look up..
you stand up..
looking, straining..
"is this their car??!!"..
You sometimes wag your tail, and for a brief moment..
for a second..
you think we are your people, coming to get you..
You are so excited!
Then the crushing sadness when you see.. we are not them..
and you slump..
your head drops, and you look downwards..
not interested really in these strangers..
"hey", I say.. "hey.. look at me.. c'mon.."
"hey fella, who are you then?"
You start to raise your head, I speak softly, trying to win you over..
maybe.. okay, maybe you will look at me..
"hi gorgeous"..
I see the sadness in your eyes.. every time..
I gently open the gate.. you look at me again, a little surprised..
I step into your small pen, and stand there, watching you..
You make a slow and tentative move towards me, and I reach out to you..
I see your tail slowly wag..
"you're ok now".. "good dog, that's the way"..
I gently run my hands down your thin body, telling you what a good dog you are, and I feel the breeze from your tail now swaying to and fro..
I smile..
"Ok kiddo, let's get you out of here"..
and THAT moment..
that VERY moment when I gently slip the lead over your head, that moment when I tell you " it's ok, you can come with me now"..
that moment when Greg holds the gate open and we walk out together..you and I..
is hard to put into words, the true feelings, the emotion, that goes hand in hand..
because you always look up at me now.. you look at me, and your eyes don't look quite as sad as before..

Your new life starts this day...

welcome..

Spook's Signature?

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

I'm not a religious person and certainly don't want to get into a religious discussion, but, reading the above line made me think (and yes it hurt).... If the God's created all living things then why would heaven be exclusive for humans? Whatever afterlife I'm faced with I'm sure it woud include all our loved ones human and animal alike. After all some humans in my life were animals and some animals were better than some humans. So, I doubt anything loved would be excluded.

My deep thought for the day & happy to leave it there.

Steve.
