You are correct Wendy. The auto models are imported from Japan. Motorhome Conversion company (from whom we purchased this unit) just completely ignore my requests for help.
I was hopeful that some other members may have had the same problem. I would really like to have the proper books to be able to familiarise myself with ALL the parts of the vehicle and the recommended parts and lubricants and service schedules.
No point trying to source one from Japan as I would not understand Japanese. Perhaps these auto units were also exported to some other English speaking countries, so will keep digging if nothing turns up on this forum.
Thanks for your reply.
I think perhaps that ebay is probably the only place you might find something. As stated it is an import and the autos were not sold here until recently. Owner Manuals are impossible to find for any of the Japanese imported vehicles. I have had a couple of imports in different models. So perhaps do not be so hard on your seller !After all Toyota should be able to supply one too but will refuse to even talk about it.
However you would be able to get a workshop manual, on a CD, not a book, from a supplier on ebay. That may suit some of your needs. Look at this and perhaps look further and ask some questions of the seller.
Thanks Jaahn.
I have messaged that ebay seller and asked if his manual will cover both Auto and Manual gearbox versions.
Never owned a diesel before, so want to make sure I am up to speed on proper maintenance.
I understand the motor in this bus is the same as in the Toyota Landcruisers of that year? Don't know if I can trust that info by the company that sold it to me though.
Regards,
Garrie.
Yes the engine and the gearbox is basically the same as a Landcruiser of the same era. There are differences with the auto gearbox due to the extra transfer case on the back but the workings are the same as are the servicing needs. So a look in your local library may be a place to start.
The engine and gearbox units have type numbers to identify them. These are shown on the ID plate of the bus. Not the plate put on for rego but the Toyota ID plate. These are fitted to all other models too. That will help you to see what is fitted to various models independent of the knowall experts Check out some in the car yards with a look under the bonnet at the plate.
RE... Garrie's Coaster and the company that sold it to him say you get a 5 year mechanical warranty on the imported bus, prolly with a 100 K plus klm's on it ...
How can they do that...??? are Coasters that reliable...??? I dont know anything about them, but they do seem to have a loyal following...
Does this given 5 year warranty have a phone book of fine print...???, not talking belts and hoses etc surely. Auto trans and 4x4 stuff and motor if one were to purchase a 4x4...??? some say 100 K is just run in if it has been serviced properly...
Would love to know what the clan has to say on this and the 4x4 factory Coaster in general...
Hi Vic :)
Do you realise this thread is several years old. Perhaps some responders have moved on ! If you do not get any replies I suggest you start a new thread with the heading that you wish to ask about.
Yes the Coasters may be very reliable. They can run up towards the million Kms as a regular bus. But they can have failures like any vehicle. Servicing the auto with a suitable quality modern oil, several times to flush out the stale oil would be a good start. And check all the hoses as they age, as well as the normal servicing.
