COLORADO FUEL INLET

How,

Does anyone know if you can change the low flow fuel inlet of a 2014 Colorado Twin Cab Ute, Diesel to a Hi Flow inlet, please confuse

If so where would be the best place and approx cost maybe. Holden didn't seem to know.

The only reason I ask lance is that I got caught out twice that there was only Hi Flo available. Tank was a bit too close to empty for my liking. I now start looking for fuel around half a tank. I have thought of making up some sort of adaptor in case. Some servo's are also a little tight to get the tug and den in the main section.

Havent heard of such a conversion either sound interesting though, but please be aware that a common rail Diesel engine uses high fuel flow through the fuel injection system to cool the injectors, pop under and place your hand on the fuel tank after a couple of hours traveling and see for yourself, running the fuel tank below the last 1/4 is going to compromise the injectors life and they are expensive and usually Will need to replace all of them don't use the last 1/4 unless it is an emergency do not run it down into that last 1/4 fuel it will lead to tears at the repair shop.

Doug - I'm driving a Colorado ute right now linemarking, we have 2 of them and both are a pain to fill...sometimes 2 cents worth of diesel at a time, until we discovered that if you hold the trigger end of the nozzle at 2 O'clock with the nozzle end 3/4 of the way in towards 8 o'clock it will flow almost at full flow. Once you learn this you will no longer fear filling!
Apparently the other alternative is to fit a fuel cap and inlet pipe from an Isuzu.
Ours are rental vehicles and are not popular for this reason alone! Both are about 30,000km
One is 2wd and gutless and the other 4wd and good power...both 2014 models and 2.8 diesels....do not know why although one has been used for traffic control where the motor idles all day (gutless one). Nice clutch and gearchange and excellent brakes. Steering wheel is sticky plastic in base models. Ours are mine specs by the way.
Currently working west of Miles SW qld and the town is very quiet with mining/gas slowdown...lots of very cheap accomodation - we went out last night for a 6 pack at the Windsor pub and they were closed....that's how quiet it is. Lots of heavies on the road with mining equipment plus a few grey nomads holding them up!!!!

Good Luck

I have no problem filling Denis, just got caught out twice with no lo flo available mate. In fact, I love my Collie, can't fault it. Maybe you need to change the colour of the paint confuse

Woody n Sue,

I was around the 1/4 mark but not sure when next servo was going to pop up. I have always tried to fill up before 1/4 with any car I have had. Thanks for the info though.

I am able to fill my Colorado 7 with the hi flo pumps
you just have to be aware of what you are doing and comtrol the flo rate
are you having other problems that would want youto go to the trouble and expence of changing the inlet

The problem you have is that the amount of fuel going in under pressure is greater than the air that is trying to get which causes the flow to stop. The trick is to have the nozzle about 50-75mm in this gives a lot of room for the air to move out. You can also hear the fuel getting closer to the filler as the tank fills so you will know when to slow the flow.

No other problams Brian, just what I have said. I went to Holden and after checking, yes the Colorado 7 has a HiFlo inlet but the Ute doesn't, even the new model. They can't explain why and can't decide if it can even be changed. I now have to wonder who the experts actually are??

I have heard a Isuzu inlet can be fitted but sounds very exe. I might just make up some sort of converter just to have it.

It's not that I need Hiflo, just to be able to use it if nothing else available. I am aware of adjusting flo as not to get flo back and diesel everywhere.

Thanks for you info Wassa but I am not having any problem actually filling with loflo, Infact I am very happy with loflo. The problem is, I have been caught out twice not having loflo available, just hiflo and not a hiflo inlet. Bugga.

Doug - our Colorado utes are single cab versions and if I remember correctly yours is the SUV version so totally different - my apologies for for the misinformation.

I wonder whether you could get a 2009-2012 Colorado filler neck to fit. Mine is a 2009 4X4 dual cab and I can fit hi or low flow into the neck, with high flow I just have to have the pump at the right angle and feed it a bit slower, still fills faster than the low flow on full bore.

Breather hose?...I thought they were a sealed system.   The hire mob we got our 2 from said they've had some Colorado utes  returned and swapped for other brand utes because of this fill problem.

I realise I'm almost seven years late answering this but as I have a solution I thought it worthwhile:

BrownDavis

I have a 2016 Colorado7 and it absolutely bugs me when I find that the only diesel pump available has the large truck sized nozzle. Grrrr, means I have to hold the nozzle and just drizzle the fuel in. Would be great if BrownDavis, or someone, made a filler that could be retro-fitted to the Collie7 & Trailblazer similar to that available for the Colorado & D-Max utes. I don't care about High Speed filling - I can control the fill rate with the nozzle trigger - I just want to be to insert the nozzle into the filler hole.

Absolutely!

I have a Trailblazer and that was why I began this research. Many (all?) of the unmanned diesel filling stations are high flow nozzles and will not fit my vehicle's tank.

It's currently looking as though I'll have to make some kind of adaptor which I don't really want to do.

Hi Two Feathers.

I think from memory, with my now sold Colly I simply enlarged the inlet to accommodate larger nozzles.

Also my ute was a tray back model used for farm work and  the rebore was simple to  get at.

It worked fine.

Have fun Haji-Baba

Pretty sure Dougewe did that. Perhaps PM him.

Good move Chief. I have a 200 series Landcruiser and use the hi-flo pumps whenever one is available.
For truck use only =BS.
Never had a problem. Quicker when you have to pump 120l+
Cheers,
Larry

I think a lot of the respondents are missing the point here. The high flow nozzle is much larger in diameter the low flow nozzle. There are quite a few diesel vehicles that only have a small hole in their fuel tank filling point. The truck high flow nozzles will not fit in the vehicle. The OP and a few others are wanting to know how they can modify their vehicles to take the larger nozzles.
