Has anyone traveled Marree in S A to Oodnadatta to Marla in a rwd vehicle towing a van Are the stoney roads rough on the tyres etc When its dry of course Any advice would be good
Hi I travelled march 2018 from flinders ranges to oodanatta with my road van and another couple with an offroader.my van copped a couple of rocks off the tyres doing minor damage to pipes and Anderson plug. The road is not corrugated but does have sections that has loose medium size rocks on it. If I was going to do it again in a road van I would limit the speed down to under 60 km per hour and let your tyre pressure in both car and Van down to approx 35 Psi .My mate in the offroader had no damage cheers

We have travelled that road, its basically a wide gravel road, some corrugations but normally not too bad, of course it depends on how long since its last been graded and the weather. In the dry its ok for any vehicle towing a van as long as you drive it at an appropriate speed. There are a lot of loose rocks though and we saw a couple of people who had broken pipes on their caravan from rocks bouncing up under the van, so if you don't already have underbody protection on pipes you should consider putting some on, many people simply use noodles split and put over the pipes and tied on with cable ties.

FWIW, I lived in the region for most of my working life, I wouldn't entertain the thought of traveling that route towing a van.
Trust me you will face repair bills at the end, the track will shake your van apart.
I can recount numerous horror stories of people getting into difficulties out there (its not classified a remote area without reason) remember your a long way from help, breakdowns will be very expensive.
