MicroSoft V Apple.

I'm a Microsoft user always have been and probably always will.

Having said that, on a recent overseas trip I was placed in the position of having to use my wife's Ipad for a couple of weeks, I disliked it with a passion, the touch screen is a nightmare to use, imprecise, constantly opening screens I had no interest in (perhaps something to do with my fingers) Apple claim is its an intuitive OS, perhaps so if you have been bought up with Apple, I found it to be a real pain, give me a laptop with a Windows OS and a wireless mouse any day.

On the other hand my wife has no real problems with it, although I have noticed she frequently visits my desk top machine when Mr Apple won't do what she want's it to do, the reverse never happens.confuse

I left windows behind years ago when I couldn't find the curtains
I like apples they taste good
Seriously I never had a problem swapping but then I wanted to change maybe that's the difference.

Perhaps so Woody/Sue, I also suspect it comes down to years invested in learning the ins and outs of an OS, once we gain a reasonable working knowledge and things are running smoothly it's pretty hard to move out of your comfort zone without a very good reason.smile

Hey Santa. I had the same problem as you. Won an Apple Ipad in a competition - one of the top of the line lines. Just couldn't get my head round it (probably too old to port over from MS) and ended up flogging it off on E Flea (sold it for about $10 less than its usual retail price, so I was happy).

Just got a new mobile phone after my Samsung 4 clapped out after 26 mnths (it has a 24 mnth warranty) - I only went up to a Glaxy 5 and every time I turned it on, it brought up a message saying the back cover was off.  Went back to the Telco to be told, yep - it will always do this as its a warning to make sure all the plug ins are closed - its a waterproof one (they didn't tell me that when I bought it).  And of course, like all electronic products, they don't come with a hand book anymore - you need to go online (and at the time, I was out of 'net range)

I will stick with MS despite all its short falls. The Boss gives me enough grief so don't need to have more, trying Apple again lol

Moved from MS to an Apple iMac desktop many years ago. Have a his & hers. Rarely have to help the wife out since the iMac. Had to keep an old MS machine to do my tax. Tax in now on the iMac. Really like the Apple desk top over the MS. No MS machine at all. Have a blunt answer when I get a scammer telling me I have a problem with my MS computer.

Wife has an iPhone which I do not like but she likes as our daughter can help her out there.

I have an Android phone which I really like.

We both have Android tablets - brilliant - and much easy than my daughters iPad.

Daughter has a Windows 8 laptop. It's not logical for me after years with an Apple. I dislike it intensely. Don't think she likes it either as she rarely uses it and does any serious work my wife's iMac.

One problem is that some websites (Banks mainly) update their on line systems and do not test with iMac / Safari or Android. Been locked out of some transactions on UBANK since early June. It's like talking to a brick wall trying to explain what has gone wrong (I've fully documented the issue - I'm an ex-IT person) and sent to case UBANK. They have no idea what the problem is & how it occurred. Pointed out to them that it defeats the purpose of online banking if I have to ring up to do many tasks. Also, all their changes have to be fully documented by law so tracking back to June should be easy. An upgraded over last weekend didn't fix the issue either.

Swapped to iMac a few years ago because it is more robust than Windows. It can still be hacked into but not as easily as Windows.

Had an Iphone and Ipad for a while so moving to a macbook from a windows based Asus last week was sort of a natural progression, been a bit of a learning curve but getting there slowly, must say I far prefer the macbook to my ipad as its actually more like a pc in operation. The ipad is great for emails, photos and quick web searches, but the in app adds drive me nuts !
I use Firefox in preference to apples Safari, so in real terms it is very similar to my old Asus laptop, but I have Addblocker on it too and so get no annoying rubbish as I used to on the ipad.

I feel the quality is there with apple, you can sort of "feel" it, and the keyboard is a dream to use.

I also like the instant on of the mac, no waiting for windows to load, and the seamless connectivity between ipad/iphone. Battery life is excellent too, so I suppose I'm a convert.
