When I bought my van new in Dec 2008, I was offered Vantec. My first thoughts were "all paint protection products are a waste of time", from experience I have had with such offers to 'protect your car's paint'.

After a few weeks thought, I decided that $1,340 was a small price to pay to 'protect' my $67,000 investment in a van that was going to be my home, travelling full-time, and to never be under cover.

Now, almost seven years later, it has proven the best money I spent on the van.

As I said, I travel full-time and it lives in all weathers in every state and territory and has never been under cover. I wash the van probably only twice a year using a 'car wash'.

 

However, because the front of the van gets the bugs and road grime constantly, I wash that often with a sponge and clean water only. Bugs and grime come off with a minimum of effort.

The paint/aluminium is still like new. 

Obviously, given my experience, I would recommend Vantec if your van is to be subjected to constant weather exposure. However, I would not bother with the 'internal' fabric protection offered by Vantec - I had it done but doubt if it really did anything better than any other product - and if you never spill anything on the fabric it would definitely be a waste of time.

[edit: I would only recommend the application of Vantec on a BRAND NEW van - I very much doubt it will restore a van that has already had exposure to the elements]

I have seen Rockies van and yes it looks new, so much so it convinced me to have Vantec done to me new home before I picked it up nearly 12 months ago. I washed it just before leaving Townsville a couple of weeks ago and it was so easy, no effort required. I found some cleaning product from Vantec in a cupboard but after asking about cleaning on this forum I will use the product Rocky has put a pic of when I run out of the VT one.

Hi, we had Vantec applied to our new Goldstar Caravan 3 years ago, if I remember the cost was around $2000, must admit I have been very disappointed with the overall long term result, three years later the white fiberglass surface was 'chalky' when you wiped your hand over it, the Van during that time was exposed to the weather, but I did think that the 'protection' should have coped with that.. ( we have now sold this Van and ordered a new one). Ceramic Pro is one of the ones that is on my short list for our new Caravan.

The new Vantec Next Gen that they are advertising could be a game changer as it is using a Ceramic Coating which is very similar to what is now used on vehicles.. time will tell.

 

Just a polymer sealant.

Same as this. Don't know why they call it a polish when it isn't one.

I've just got a new-to-me secondhand van and the previous people apparently had this done.  There's a sticker on the door and a receipt in the paperwork.  I didn't know what it was, had to look it up.  Does it wear off?

Nothing serious. Just lost a little shine and not as easy to clean. 

I have been very happy with the 'Vantec' hufnpuf and reckon I got my money worth because the aluminium tent is out in all weather 24/7 since new in 2014.

As a lifelong professional automotive spray painter I have a few thoughts on the above comments. Armourall wash and wax is hard to beat for bucks and finish appearance.

Ceramic paint protection systems do differ slightly in performance but all are good, it's FAR more important to choose a good applicator, someone who takes pride in their workmanship. As an example; in the automotive paint field there are many two pack paint systems used by smash repair shops, all have their good and bad points re durability and price but the single most important part is the quality of the spray painters preparation of the surface to be painted, and the applicators skill at spraying it.

In my opinion all these paint protection products are just another way of getting a quid out of you. I cant see there being a guarantee that this will protect your investment as each and every person uses their vehicle (van or car) in different ways, different locations and different environments.

Me - I wash when needed and use a good quality wax twice a year.
