After 6 weeks in the hot, dry fly infested Outback of NSW we drove from near Broken Hill straight down to the South-West coast of VIC to cool off before heading home to Melbourne.
The last 5 images were taken on the SW coast of VIC.

The images are taken by both of us.
My wife has a Nikon D60 with a Sigma 150-500mm zoom plus a Tamron 150-600mm zoom.
I have a Sony-Minolta A200 with a Sigma 50-500mm zoom plus a Tamron 150-600mm zoom.
Wildlife/Nature photography is our reason for traveling. We also photograph wildflowers, native orchids, reptiles, animals & insects.
We spend almost all of our time out in the bush by ourselves, there's nothing of interest to us in a caravan park. LOL.

my pet hate is taking pics of people, they always complain that is not their best side. I like to take pics the same as you and your wife along with building ruins, love old stone ones or rusty iron
cheers

Any type of photography enhances your travel experiences. My wife & I are lucky that we both share the same passion. We should mention that we only photograph wild birds. Taking captive birds photos is cheating to serious bird photographers.
We recently met a couple who had published a guide book with photos to every waterfall in Victoria. It had sold well over 400 copies last time they checked. Each to their own.
