Where to go in January

Hello All

Im currently in southern WA 'doing the circuit' and a long way from home.  Has anyone got any good ideas about where to go during January where this grumpy old granny can escape the school holidays?  Lovely as all the young families are they're a bit overwhelming en masse!

Any advice gratefully received :)

Dependant on where you currently are; Out Kalgoolie way you have Merredin, Boulder, Leonora, Laverton that can provide lots of interesting things to see and do. Further South there is Wave Rock and Lake King areas that is well worth spending a couple of weeks. There will be tourists out there but not of screaming kids and teens, they're not interested in this boring seeing the sights, prospecting and Ooh and Ah-ring over the wheat, canola and Paterson's Curse patterns in the landscapes.

Take it easy over there in the "wild west" my braves are on leave at this time of year so you be safe in that department and I tell you that for free.

Thanks for the welcome Frank and Dougwe and for the good ideas Possum3. Youve confirmed what I thought, head away from the coast! Any thoughts on good places to camp?

You need Camps 8 - Too many places to list free camp rest stops on Hgw between Northam and Coolgardie all on LH side going East - No water or toilets, some are very large (acres) fire pits some have shelters. Definitely use Caravan Parks at Kalgoorlie. There are about 10/12 free camps North of Kalgoorlie going up to Laverton. Several pretty little rest stops between Merredin and Wave Rock (most very small 3/4 vehicles). Overshot Hill just North of Ravensthorpe. Ensure you are carrying plenty of water and buy a deodorant (don't waste water on showers). Although you can get water at Merredin, Southern Cross Kalgoorlie, Leonora and Laverton. Down south At Hyden, Wave Rock, Lake King and Ravensthorpe.
