Analogue Voltmeter Fluctuations

Hi All,

Firstly hope you all have a great Christmas and Happy New Year.

Now down to business. I have a 120w portable solar panel which I connect to the house battey. the van has an analogue voltmeter installed.

When charging from the panel, the voltmeter needle fluctuates about 2v every ten seconds or so. Battery charges ok.

Charging through the van's 240v charger there is no movement, other than the normal slow changes as the battery charges.

When charging the fridge battery in the car, from the panels, I use a digital meter and it is rock steady.

Any ideas and is it worth worrying about.

Thanks & cheers

Hurls

What is the make and model of the solar controller? Is it a MPPT type?

I had a similar problem, when i charged the camper by plugging the solar panels into the camper trailer anderson plug i had that same voltage movement, when I attached the panels directly to the battery no more movement, try a more direct connection to the batteries then measure the voltage directly across the battery (Connecting the panels via their voltage regulator each time)

It will be the Solar regulator cycling when the battery is almost fully charged. An Analogue meter responds to voltage fluctuations instanty, a digital volt meter doesn't & depends on its update times. I still use analoge meters when measuring fluctuating voltages.
