Hi, Happy Christmas, Safe and Healthy New Year to everyone.
Another question if anyone can answer it.
Can you tell me if you have been to Innot Hot Springs camping area near Mt Garnett Queensland and if so when is a good time to go and I have read that November to March Roads can be quite busy due to flooding etc.
I live in Cairns and travel to Innot 4 or 5 times a year. It is about 2 hours. There is a new high level bridge over the creek now and I doubt the road is cut at all coming from the East. The road from Charters Towers may occasionally have flooding issues but the water gets away quickly and that is the route when the coast roads are cut by floods.
There can be a lot of semis on it then. Much of that road is now dual lane and is improving all the time. I love the place and find the magnesium rich water in the park pools is great for aches and pains.
The facilities are basic but the pub across the creek is terrific and does great meals as well.
It is very busy with grey nomads in the cooler months and almost deserted from about October until April/May. But I do prefer when the air is cool and the water hot
There is a free camp at Archer Creek a few kilometers down the road toward Ravenshoe but it doesn't have hot springs. It also gets busy in the winter

We called in to the Innot Hot Springs, but did not want to stay at the park - outside, just below the pub, the creek is part of the hot springs, and you can dig into the sand, and settle yourself in there for free. Several others were doing it as well, some areas were really hot.

Unless things have changed dramatically since I lived in FNQ, you can access the hot water for free. However the park includes a number of pools of varying temperatures and makes the hot soak much more enjoyable. Seems to be mixed reviews, but there is quite a bit of info on the net if you just search for Innot Hot Springs, and it's probably worth phoning first to make sure all the pools are open. IMHO it is best to visit in the coolest months so you can really enjoy a hot soak.
