urinal trac infections

Sorry if the topic offends anyone but I can't be the only one who has this problem.

Do other women get uninary tracinfections while on the road?????? If so how have they managed it. My doctor has said sitting for long period of time while touring makes for an ideal breeding ground for infections. I drink plenty of water (3 litres a day if not more) and we only travel for 3-4 hours at a time. Any other ideas please.confuse I don'twant to keep taking antibiotics if I can help it.

Cheers

Bringing out the nurse in me

Your doctor is correct (don't you hate that)
Make sure you wear cotton undies and loose fitting slacks , or just skirts and use only fragrance-free personal hygiene products,
Smoking doesn't help either.
When using the toilet, always wipe front to back using toilet paper or "personal cleansing wipes"...... but be careful although they say they are flushable they are not, so put them in a bin.
Make sure you stop every 2 hours for a bit of a walk.
When you have a UTI, caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, nicotine, carbonated drinks, and artificial sweeteners irritate your bladder, so give them a miss on the road.

I have found some brands of toilet paper don't agree with that part of my body - especially ones that are printed - thought it was only one brand, but tried another and same result - UTI!! Cranberry tablets or capsules are terrific. And if you use baby wipes, make sure they are not perfumed - disaster!

Hi

The problems ladies face every day are often not talked about and this makes it hard for others to find good information.

There are some inexpensive baby products available that can be helpful in this situation.  Flushable bamboo liners for modern cloth nappies are great for cleaning delicate areas.  They can be wet with water and will disintegrate afterwards they are bio-degradable and do break down. No perfumes just natural products.  They come in a roll of 100 sheets.  There are also reusable panty liners made for light bladder problems, these are charcoal and bamboo.  Very easy to wash, dry and reuse.  They are very soft comfortable and can help to keep you fresh all day removing the source of infection. The best place for them is fleabay or littleaussiemonster.com.au

Hope this helps

Pamela

All of the above is great information.

Another usefill tip: make sure you totally empty your bladder each time. I have issues in the past when useing the dreaded drop loo, of being in too much of a hurry to get out. Not much fun to get uti when in flinders ranges on xmas eve!

Have just read an article that says Cranberry Capsules are more effective than Cranberry juice in preventing UTI's

Always travel with Cranberry Capsules.
If we are doing a long stretch , take two before we leave

Men get it from standing in the "urinal trac".

I was also told by doctor, when finished making love, get up and wash bits. If I don't, two days later I am in trouble.

Always have ural sachets on hand. Take 3 or 4 times a day and always cranberry tablets. Get the strongest possible. And Rainys advice is good. Commando is great if you can
