Help with insurance

Hello my husband and I will be picking up our first ever brand new Coromal Element with in the next few weeks. Has anyone  got recommendations who is best to insure our new van with. We have retired early after working in the same job together for the last 26 years. We can't wait to start traveling this beautiful country of ours.

G'day and welcome. I will leave the insurance to others.

Cheers

Welcome to the gang Lynwall, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I use my private health fund's general insurance, have done for years and more than happy. Only ever used them once due to some idiot backing out a driveway while talking on a mobile phone.

Keep Safe on the roads.

Hello Lynwall
Like yourself I am a newbie on this site, so perhaps others are better qualified to answer your question. As this is the second day for your question, perhaps others are busy at the moment, so I shall jump into the deep end

In the blue band above there are links for --- Home --- List All Users --- Search --- User Details --- Calendar

Click on Search, and then click within the search box which will appear, and type in insurance. Clicking the search button on the right, will bring up any post with insurance as the heading. (It took me a while to figure this out)

What Dougwe has said, has a lot of merit, which I (and assume some others) were unaware of. (So on behalf of others and myself) thanks for that information Dougwe.

Unfortunately my private health fund, GMF does not cover vehicles, but the main WA private health fund HBF, covers vehicles and will also give a 14˝ % discount, on vehicle insurance, if you are a member. I have no idea if this is the same in your part of the playground.

I had an old caravan insured with RAC at a good rate, but I had been with them for nearly 50 years. RAC for whatever reason, do not insure motor homes. As a comparison for insurance rates my second hand motor home is insured with SGIO (the biggest insurer in WA) for my purchase price of $60,000 at a cost of $684. As this is only my second year with SGIO, I do not believe that I would be receiving any discounts.

Through talking to other travellers, while on the road, I picked up on the information that quite a few people join the CMCA, to obtain cheap recreation vehicle insurance.

I also feel (and apoligies in advance if I am wrong), that your question may get more response in the general forum.

I hope you are having a nice day

Edit to seperate the quick link boxes

I've found CIL ( part of Suncorp I believe) to be a reasonable price for insurance of the MH. They also insure caravans and you get access to a discount card that I've used a number of times.

All the best
Stephen

Hi Lynwall,

Not sure where you're located?

We're like you, new here & new to caravaning; we just insured ours through the RAA (South Australians lol) The price was good & the excess was $100.

Cheers,

Mutley.

We found CIL very good as we have a Coach and tow car. Car is insured with Suncorp...same people) Demolished a steer tyre on bus when hitting a piece of angle iron on highway. They paid the lot.

G'day Lynwall

We have shopped around over the years for caravan insurance and have tried the cheaper ones like WFI and Youi even GIO and found that you really do get what you pay for so we have ours insured now with NRMA for agreed value(no escape clause either)

Our van is insured for $69,000 and cost around $1200 for a year

hope that helps
