looking at a new Fuji-micro 2.5kva inverter generator from eBay $579 it's in our budget, any suggestions for others in the price range that have been proven to be acceptable
We are looing at the TPG 2kva from masters, i have read some good reviews and the noise is substantially lower than other cheaper ones, from what i read it also uses a honda engine.
The only flag I would put up is make sure its a pure sine wave inverter attached to the genny. If not a few gizmos in the van may go west. 2.5KVA sounds about right, we have a honda 2KVA which takes care of our morning coffee, charges the batteries and runs the aircon if needed.
Take care

Hi Phil, Interested in what aircon you run with a 2kva please? I am told 2.5kva min. for my Dometic, your thoughts? Cheers Vince
Gday Vince and welcome.
Yeah I take your point, the 2KVA struggles but it maintains cool air once the compressor starts. I believe the ibis has a soft start compressor for this very reason. The irony is that once the initial few seconds are over it only draws around 5 amps, well within 2KVA specs. The air con is an Aircommand ibis reverse cycle.
BTW the genny is a honda 2iu. We have only done this once.
Cheers

What you have to watch is the method of generator ratings. There are many models that are advertised with a rating but when you look at the specifications that the continuous rating is much lower. To me that continuous rating is what these devices should be marketed as. A machine with a continuous rating of 2 kW will power most air conditioners, these will be most likely be marketed as 2.4 kW machines.

I have a Fuji Micro, think it was described as 3200W which is more likely to be a real-world 2500W. Had it for two years with no problems apart from the air valve in the fuel cap breaking. Did sterling work after Cyclone Marcia last year, running for about 12 hours a day (only stopping to refuel) for seven days to keep my friends' medical equipment running. I only got it as backup for solar (don't have aircon or coffee machine), run it every month or so to clear the cobwebs and it starts first or second time on the remote or key - don't recall ever having to pull the cord.

I've had a Fuji Micro (supposedly 4.4kVa, but more likely a 3.4kVa) for about 4 years now. It has never let me down and easily runs our air conditioner and fridge (at the same time).
During a recent hot spell on a friend's property, we ran it almost continuously for 3 days and it didn't miss a beat. It's pretty quiet, but relatively heavy, especially when full of fuel.
I went for one of these because of the decent capacity and low price ($500 ebay). I'm not a prolific user, but rather I have it 'just in case'. I also figure that I could buy 5 of these for one H...a at half the capacity. So far it's paid off.

Thanks everyone for your important info. We too will only really be using it as a "back up" with no aircon but a pod coffee machine (apparently a necessity) it will do us fine
